Thanks for the variety of high-quality photos from different angles! Seems like this one is starting to rise quite quickly now.

My pleasure
It's really starting to feel imposing and you get a sense of how it's going to redefine the market precinct. I'm excited to watch it come together.

I would say level 3 is the last of the floors that covers the entire site.

The crane aligned to the hotel/apartment building is climbing today too. There's quite a few tower sections on site so I'd say this will be a considerable jump

Good times if you like construction

I love the way this development harks back to the historical market design with the arched brickwork.

In this photo from 1966, the site that would become Coles is being cleared.

Is that structure that’s been attached to the front of the Federal Hall building some kind of hideous mid century “modernisation” that was supposed to cover the heritage building? Or is it there for a different purpose?
[U/C] Re: Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 130m | 39 levels
Yes I think it was just part of that whole '60s futuristic Jetsons vibe. There was a big redevelopment of the markets in 1965, part of which was the construction of the rooftop carpark seen in the 1966 pic. The Coles "New World" supermarket opened in 1968 and matched the style. Check out the rooftop rocket!

Edit: Found a pic of the structure being attached to Federation Hall.

Are the replica arches going to be proper brickwork or facade panels?
[U/C] Re: Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 130m | 39 levels
Yep - real brick!

SourceThe design of the new arcade reinstates the emblematic arches of the original façade and extends them to the interiors. Made of authentic red brick, the arches lead the public through the development, reaching to the top of the podium hall to form covered laneways, frame circulation and denote key entries on every floor.

I've been away from Adelaide for 5 weeks and oh boy this site has moved along in that time. Good stuff indeed

The interior looks like the TAFE in Currie StreetBobski wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 12:38 pmYep - real brick!![]()
