At this stage they are going ahead with the West Thebarton Road/South Road upgrade as a part of this project, not sure about the rest.

What are they doing at West Thebarton Road?

I would assume they are adding the third southbound (and northbound I believe) lanes among other things, I don't know the details except what is provided in the master plan.

Scaled-down version of the Darlington Interchange road project set to get green light
by: DANIEL WILLS STATE POLITICAL REPORTER
From: The Advertiser
April 30, 2014 12:48AM

A DRAMATICALLY scaled-down version of the Darlington Interchange road project, costing about a third of earlier estimates, is poised to get a green light from the State Government.
The state and federal governments are locked in talks over the sequence and funding of future South Rd upgrades and each is set to hand down a budget in coming weeks.

Sources close to the talks have told The Advertiser consensus is building around support for a remodelled version of the Darlington Interchange project at a cost of $620 million.

Official approval for the upgrade could come as soon as the May 13 federal Budget and there are hopes it could be built at the same time as the Torrens-to-Torrens upgrade near Port Rd.

Any recently demolished ones? IIRC last time I looked, only 240 South Road (on the corner of Dartmouth Street) had been removed since 19/10/2013 (the last view visible with the Timeline feature of Google Earth). I'd be interested to know what else has gone.

A scaled down version sounds concerning.

$620m is still way too high for this project, even if it does include Darlington (but I doubt it does - the previous one didn't, being in Clovelly Park and Bedford Park).

Quite a lot have been demolished actually. And are continually being demolished.
From time to time in the Advertiser they have notices about acquired properties along South Road.

It's been obvious that Torrens to Torrens was going to go ahead, they haven't stopped demolishing properties.
Now there's news the state and federal government are in talks about funding for it and a scaled down Darlington interchange, possibly being done simultaneously. Perhaps some sanity will prevail after all.

Perhaps it's time for a separate thread for TtT?

^^There has also been drilling undertaken for the proposed railway overpass.

In the end this is probably the best result. Both projects are desperately needed and will be a great benefit to the local construction industry.
It appears the rail services have been dumped from the upgrade currently under consideration. However, it is unclear what else has been trimmed to find a further $400 million in savings.
As much as it's needed, the railway link to Flinders University can wait. Rather the entire network is completely overhauled first, before anymore railway extensions.

We just have to hope they don't make the scaled down project in such a way that it will need to be completely redone at the Flinders section when they do decide to to the rail link.
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!

I beg to differ. Wasn't the intent behind electrifying and duplicating Tonsley partly motivated by the fact they'd soon extend it to Flinder Uni/Medical Centre? Left as is, Tonsley serves minimal purpose apart from use for park-n-ride and for the education facilities at the old Mitsubishi factory. Considering Abbott barely pledged a dime toward infrastructure in SA, it'd be nice if he retained his full promise to include rail in this, and jointly funded Torrens to Torrens out of principle that it's in dire need of investment.

I tend to agree. I'd rather they do it properly at Darlington and then keep chipping away at Torren to torrens.

But I think both sides of politics is making this harder than it should be.

The Tonsley Interchange and Flinders Medical Centre / University will be connected by a high frequency loop service. Which is a much cheaper solution until the rest of the network is fully electrified, increased frequency and more vital station upgrades. I do hope however that any planning towards the Darlington Interchange includes a future rail link.

Also did Abbott promise to include rail as part of the Darlington Interchange?. Considering the Liberals are dead set against any federal funding towards public transport.

Abbot didn't promise the rail link, it was only for the road segment. Cost would have been $500m from the Feds and up to $250 from the state government, which seems like a hard offer for the state government to refuse.

Personally I'd still like the rail line extended from Tonsley and terminate short of South Rd. Only a short stroll from that point up to the hospital/uni. Would certainly drive PT usage in the right direction.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
