Is there any images or prelim. drafts of the route to show where th rail line would have gone? Was it also correct that this part would cost $400m? If not what was the costing?

I found an animation on the DPTI web site with Google. It shows light rail up the middle of Flinders Drive. The matching road animation shows the same thing, both dated October 2010. Page 12 of the Executive Summary says they would propose to operate "tram-trains" on the Tonsley line with an interchange at Woodlands Park.

Could anyone speculate how this is likely to be constructed? Obviously the method depends largely on what the plan involves but assuming what will be built is similar to the plans released a few years ago (Road in trench, underpass at Sturt Rd and Flinders Dr, with overpass for SEXY), how would it be built while maintaining a road for traffic?

I assume that properties along one side (Western side presumably) would be acquired with a temporary City-bound road corridor built in this section. New road could then be constructed along present City-bound corridor. Once this is traffic-able, south-bound could be diverted to new road while new south-bound is built. Once this is built, traffic could then return to the correct side.

This makes sense to me however this may not be the best practice method. Is anyone with a better idea of a likely construction method able to correct me?

My guess is that they would highly encourage use of Marion Road (both from expressway and South Road traffic), using Sturt Road as the detour when the Sturt/South intersection is fully functioning, and drop South road to a couple of lanes each way, contra-flowing onto the eastern side of the road (which may require partial closures of the South Road access at the expressway) then to the new Western side once competed.

Funding has been approved, I believe for both sections to go ahead.
Torrens to Torrens should be well underway next year.

not being an engineer, will they we able to include in the project aspects that make the future rail works cheaper or at least not as intensive as the freeway duplication.

regardless, it is a great outcome from the state - we now need to get some projects or job creation ideas ready for 2018/2019.

This concept plan moves the southern expressway lights to the junction with south road and aylifffs road witha right hand turn onto southbound expressway still under sturt and flinders drive but no flyover for southbound

I can't find anything that shows the northern end of this, where the in-trench freeway joins the at-grade South Road. No maps, and it's not included in the fly-through. Anybody know?

It appears as if north bound South Road will still have traffic lights at the present day SEXY intersection so that south bound South Road traffic can enter the SEXY. The previous plan had an overpass.

Details of the northern end are a bit vague as well..

I'm also struggling to understand the interchange at the expressway, possibly the trench leads straight into the expressway at the current junction in both directions, while the at grade road joins it at the Marion Rd interchange?

If you're coming from the south, you will get off the freeway at Flinders Drive and utilise the at-grade South Road to reach Sturt Rd / Shepherds Hill Rd. The exit is at Flinders Drive to enable a speedier entry to Flinders Medical Centre for emergencies, I imagine.

Coming from the north, you will stay on the at-grade South Rd at the freeway access point that isn't shown anywhere in the documentation, until you reach Sturt Rd.
