COM: Glenelg Tramline Upgrade
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
It turns out that as well as the up side not being able to receive H's there is a clearance problem for Flexitys on the down side of the new Victoria Square platform.
It looks like the platform edge is fairly straight at the Southern end where it should have a gentle curve to follow the rails (too much clearance). Remedial work has started on this side first and I was assured that the H's will continue on their heritage schedule as soon as possible.
That being said, if this is the extent of their problems, the contractors are doing a pretty good job!
I've also heard that the first test tram into King William St will be on September the second (but only as far as the corner of North Tce

Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
Made another run to the city. Although most of the work was naturally concentrated at Victoria Square, there was some work on King William Street at the North Terrace intersection. More camera phone pics and plenty of them.
A new 'line break' is being installed. This break means that it is possible to electrically isolate a small section of the tramway for events (such as the Chrismast Pagent). The new 'Beeline' service from South Terrace to City West will be divided into three sections. One section is from just south of South Terrace to Grote Street, the next section is from Grote Steet to North Terrace intersection with the final section from the intersection to City West.
New scramble crossing at Pirie/Waymouth Streets with the traffic lights now mounted on the overhead mast.
Newly concreted track at the northern end of the square. Both tracks are now completed except for concreting and a final weld on the 'UP' (or western line). One last weld and all the track is in place.
Removing the forming on the cast section.
Various shots along the line.
Jack hammering on the Victoria Square platform.
Work at a new set of crossing lights along side the tramway at Victoria Square.

Good pics though guys!!
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
The tram will be free from South Terrace to City West replacing the 99B and hence effectively becoming the new Beeline service.jimmy_2486 wrote:What!! Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
not that this really matters... but out of interest... does anyone know why there is two different track surfaces... the normal concrete 1 used at intersections and the new dark greyish looking 1 used everywhere else in the extension?
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
Anyone know whats with the 4 guys who are standing at the new scatter crossings?
They have been there since about Wed last week. One on each corner of the two new crossings.
Surely if they were there for testing it would be enough by now to know they are working

Seems like a waste. Especially for this long.bmw boy wrote:

I would have thought people could figure out the crossings themselves, especially since there is the one at Hungry Jacks already.

Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
There are still people that do not understand the scatter crossing at HJs... on a daily basis I still see people walking in front of traffic and this is 2 1/2 years after they made it a scatter crossing.duke wrote:Seems like a waste. Especially for this long.bmw boy wrote:

What the Christ is a scatter crossing?
I'm a country boy if that explains why I have no idea about it .

Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
A scatter crossing is just where all the traffic stops at an intersection allowing pedestrians to cross in any direction they want.

Ohh, one of those. What's so hard to comprehend about that? O_oPistol78 wrote:A scatter crossing is just where all the traffic stops at an intersection allowing pedestrians to cross in any direction they want.
