Adelaide Oval is not a great venue for cricket

Adelaide Oval is one of the top 4 ovals to watch cricket in the world Ive heard. Every cricket nuthead Ive ever met reckon that a traditional English style ground with an old pavillion is far better to watch cricket than massive cauldrons like the MCG and the awful looking Gabba

Adelaide oval was one of the best things Adelaide had going for it until the philistines got to it and introduced new elements including wedding cake canopies and out of scale light poles that don't belong. Now it's a mishmash of the traditional and the modern, that doesn't really gel. Mind you, it's still a good venue, it's beautifully located near the city centre and there's some tradition that's still apparent - it's just that I don't think that the world's cricket nutheads have caught up with SA's appalling record of stuffing up what we've got, epitomised by what has happened to Adelaide oval!

The Advertisers plans are quite good, but unfortunately it includes a stadium that isn't truly multipurpose. Adelaide has a poor history of building specialised infrastructure scattered around the suburbs - when it should be one multipurpose venue centrally located. AFL, A League, 20/20 Cricket and Concerts all at the one venue - it works so well at Telsta Dome.

If we had lots of AFL teams based here then I might agree with you. But we don't, and we already have a great cricket venue within walking distance of the City, so I think it would be better to specialize. An oblong stadium will always be better than an oval one for soccer and rugby because the crowd will be closer to the action. A new stadium should be designed for something we can't already do well, rather than duplicating an existing function.

I must say, you fail to convince me. It's becoming a global trend - just look at the new stadium plan for Perth.

The fact is that it would be pointless in building another stadium that can only accomodate soccer & rugby. It must be multipurpose.
How do we ge it so wrong all the time? The eastern states laugh at us because of this kind of thinking. Something like this Perth concept over the rail yards would be brilliant. Having 50000 people in the city each weekend would create a great atmosphere, simillar to that in Melbourne. Keep Adelaide Oval as it is, its in the best location, but it is so unique. The plans for AAMI stadium are another setback for Adelaide. When Perth completes their plans we will really look second rate.

^^ If I remember correctly, didn't the WA Liberals campaign against the stadium during the election, vowing to scrap it? If this is the case, as they won the election does this not mean that Perth will be stuck with Subiaco, as the new governemnt has different priorities.

That's right, they want to upgrade the current subiaco oval, strange seeing as WA has plenty of money for these sort of things

I didn't think it was possible but I think our state liberal party is better than theirs.

Quite a few major projects might get axed or dumbed down, like the Waterfront project and the city could be stuck with ridiculous trading hours.

Lots is being said in the SSC WA section, even quite a few members considering of leaving Perth cause of the libs winning.

There is a downside aswell. The WA liberals support uranium mining in WA unlike the WA Labor party which had promised to ban it.

This is bad news for us as it creates a competitor to our uranium monopoly.
