I hope putting this building in the header isn't bad luck and doesn't succumb to the same fate as the previous. ;)

Some more info just came through
Thought Sensational Adelaide might like to know that as expected ACC staff have written a report for their DAP that recommends the Council advise DAC that it DOES NOT support the development on the corner and Flinders and Pulteney.

The meeting is Monday at 5.30pm.

^Not that it matters but do we know what their reasoning was?

Oh bloody hell :wallbash:

The council should be doing all they can to encourage more interesting development like this.

let's wait to hear the reasoning before unleashing a barrage of negativity. Might be just a few minor & valid points.

Here is the reccomendation from the council.

Although it is a relief that the ACC no longer has the final say, it is still embarrassing to read things such as this. It sends out a message that the only buildings the council wants built, are those which are bland, beige, boxy and squat.

The ACC should be looking to encourage beautiful and amazing modern buildings to compliment our built heritage. Bland, short, boring beige boxes do not respect our beautiful city.
Whilst the proposed development is acceptable with respect to the land uses and
general type and form of development, for the reasons outlined above the proposal’s
height and associated bulk, scale and intensity of development is considered to be at
such variance to the desired building height provisions and desired for medium scale
townscape provisions in the Policy Area, Zone and Council Wide sections of the
Development Plan that it is considered to be seriously at variance and should not be
granted consent.

This council is seriously sending out mixed messages, on one hand there is this huge push to make the city exciting and alive (eg Picture Adelaide). Yet on the other hand, there is still this ridiculous big country town mentality that has been stagnanting Adelaide for far too long. This development is located in the CBD core for heaven sakes!. I know the DAC have the final say, but still I don't understand our city council's thinking and logic at times...

Not again!
I had hoped that the ACC might have a more progressive attitude to development in the city/CBD, given the new directions that appear to be coming from Town Hall.

Agree with Will. It's just embarrassing and sends a poor message. Stagnation, non-adventurous, backwards rather than forward looking.

Over to the DAC.

it's things like this that make me mad. Whats not to like about this building? It's not like it's ugly, it's adventurous. It's not like it's tall, there are 10 buildings that are either at this height or taller.

Who cares that it's at variance with the development plan when even they say it's an acceptable development for the area? It should be approved on merit.

The "intensity" of the development is too much? That's just silly and as for the issue of bulk THIS is unacceptable but that development at the end of King William was completely fine (and that was short and stumpy). Total contradictions, if however we assume all people are rational then the real issue is the height, again. Adelaide is a capital city the council needs to realise that there is a require rate of return from all investments and to prohibit developers from delivering to their investors/shareholders etc a suitable return will only act to facilitate mediocre proposals and is completely at odds with any sustainable development plan. Thank f@&k for the DAC.

Well shiite i'm happy to have any excuse to bag the ACC... especially when there is a damned good reason for it!

Not to worry the State Govt will approve it. Hopefully as it is a Chinese developer, this thing will have a chance of actually getting built!
