Must have been a slow news night on Channel 10 last night. Who would seriously consider this as an appropriate 'entrance' to Glenelg?

Well if the holdfast council even thinks about considering it, I will put a partition in to have the city of marion take over the entire holdfast shore council!!
Marion wouldn't do anything that stupid....it is, the Smart City!! hhehe

Holdfast Shores should be merged in with Marion.

I'm probably the only person here that doesn't think this is such a bad idea

No, you're not!
I actually think it's a brilliant idea. I love the design and I also love SouthOxBlokes idea of the dolphins blowing out water when a tram passes. I would like to see them well lit at night in an interesting and creative way.
Public art has always and will always be contraversial. Some people actually think the pigs eating rubbish out of bins in Rundle Mall looks good. Personally I hate them and think it is disgusting and ugly and gives what few tourists we have a very poor impression.
A lot of so called public art is often very ugly or weird and pointless too.
However this dolphin design looks wonderful to me and I think it would be a very appropriate and attractive entrance statement for Jetty Road.
I'd like to suggest they go a stage further, by banning all traffic except trams (and emergency vehicles) from Jetty road, and converting the entire strip into a paved mall, a bit like Rundle Mall.

Maybe for an entry to the port with their colony of Port River Dolphins but I didn't even think that there were even dolphins down at the bay. So in regard to this, what significance does the dolphin have to the bay? Spraying water when trams pass by - we are on Level 5 water restrictions so I don't think so

The water restrictions are just a temporary political stunt. They might even last a couple of years, but IMO they are no reason not to create beautiful water features in public places.
Adelaide has easy access to many plentiful supplies of water, the most obvious being the sea, which happens to be right next to Jetty Road!

Pistols point about the dolphins relevance to Glenelg... I was wathcing the news yesterday and thinking the same thing... but some lady on there rekons she sees dolphins at glenelg... hmm..
Pushbuttons point of water restrictions... that fountain in the ground at mosely sq has been stopped due to water restirctions has it not?... or has that ban since been lifted?

I've seen dolphins come right up to the shore at Glenelg before.

This is not public art like the big pineapple is not art.
Anyone making a suggestion as ridiculous as this should be immediately banned from making any decision that affects another member of public.

What about a wall of squid tentacles across the road and footpaths, like those plastic strips at the door of fish and chip shops?
The tentacles could be kept wet and slippery with a simple spray device, and they would provide a memorable entry to the delights of Jetty Road.
The big pineapple, btw, is not original:

(if anyone can PM re how to post images here, I'd be grateful)

If they want an entrance statement, they should light up the huge Norfolk Island Pines at night on Brighton Rd [like Kings Park in Perth] and the ones on Colley Tce with fairy lights.
