What is the federal government doing contributing money to a church project?
What a terribly misinformed question to ask. Do you actually know what Uniting Communities do in Adelaide? The Pitt Street offices house both the Lifeline call centre and Homeless Gateway Service.
How is it a misinformed question? I didn't question what Uniting Communities does. And I believe it's still valid to question whether government should be contributing money to a religious organisation, regardless of what they do.

You have it arse about. The government funds a service. Church organisations, just like any other business, offer that service and are compensated for it. Look no further than every christian school on every street for an example.
Your ideological point that money should not fund religion directly stands, but the suggestion being religious effectively blocks you from funding available in an open marketplace does not. Whatever money available to them is available to anyone else who wants to start a non profit or a business.

Interesting article about the church which contains a few photos of the church prior to demolition, along with a few mid-demolition.

That's interesting - I always presumed the building in between the church and Franklin Street was a later addition (i.e. the church was originally stand-alone with a plaza in front of it) but looking at the little model in the very first picture it was part of the design from the very beginning...

The Building next door was being painted today. Maybe work will start after the painting is complete?

Excavators are on site and are digging. I'm guessing that services are being installed.

This might be hearsay and I don't know the full story but a friend of mine who works at the Uniting place next door said that work may not proceed for a couple of months due there being an issue with the construction company that is why it's been cleared like it has looking like a dirt carpark.

There is definitely some sort of work going on, there are a lot of construction vehicles on site and there are plenty of dug up trenches.

Well I hope that's not the case. I'm really looking forward to this one going up and adding more height to Franklin Street.
