Does anyone know if they will provision the power lines in readiness for the electrification?

I would say the only provision for electrification in this project is the extra clearance provided in the underpasses for the overhead wires. They still have no idea if they should turn that line into electrified heavy rail or light rail, which is a discussion in another thread.

IMHO they would be stupid to cut off possible electrification opportunities - esp. with more resi development out that way and the shipping development to come out near osborne - obviously dependent how much of the $50b investment actually eventuates. Plan for it!

Most of the ASC workers do and will continue to drive to the shipyards. ASC will have almost no impact on what happens to the line in the future. However, electrification is still 100% possible with this project, whether light rail or heavy rail.

The concept of public transport only works if you take the transport to the people, not the people to the transport.
With the volume of workers at Techport, you would suggest that it would be beneficial to undertake an assessment by the government into a spur line running directly to the ASC North/South sites.

Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

It is also a good 2km walk at least from either Osbourne or Outer Harbour platforms, a spur would reduce frequency of services to both ASC and Outer Harbour. The line could maybe be extended from Outer harbour around on the freight track to come up about 300m from ASC. All that being said, check google maps images around ASC, there's absolutely bucketloads of space for carparking. Even if any of these options were pursued, does anyone think that the workers would actually want to use it? I think probably not.

A spur line to the Techport seems a great waste of money without a proven need.
What about a shuttle bus (paid for by the employer) to the nearest train station? If this proves a huge success then a spur line should be considered.
Realistically I think 99% of the workers at Techport would be car guys and girls......I don't think public transport would be an option for them.

The other end of the journey also needs to be practical. Adelaide's railways are set up to move people in and out of the CBD. It might work fine for workers who live close to another station on the Outer Harbor line, but what if they need to catch a bus to Elizabeth, Salisbury or Mawson Lakes stations, then a train to the city, then another train out to Osborne? In the 1940s, we ran industrial trains direct from where workers lived to major employers at shift times. The last industrial train that I know of was replaced by a bus in the early 1990s. The Kapunda to Penfield train ended much earlier.
