Depends how far you cast the net. WB is from Adelaide. Technically, buildings like the Bonython Hall and St Peters Cathedral are from them (or their founding partners).

They’ve also designed Kodo and stage 2 of the convention centre.

Award winning SAHMRI, airport terminals from Perth to San Francisco, buildings in Hong Kong, London, New York, Shanghai, India, all over Oz etc. Highly regarded internationally with offices based in many of those places. Not bad for an ADELAIDE architect firm.

There’s an Australian team and an international team. The international team have designed the above project, Kodo and convention centre stage 2 were the Adelaide team. The differences are night and day.

Woods and Baggot have several offices as you can imagine, peppered all over the world. Different teams are assigned to different projects. SAHMRI was given to an international team based in San Fran. The Adelaide team designed the two projects I mentioned.

It's WOODS BAGOT. So you are inferring that the Adelaide based architects are not very good at delivering great design and finishes?

They're not the only major multi-national architects started in Adelaide either. Hassell was founded here as well.
Woods Bagot have designed some of the better multi-residential buildings here in the last few years, which annoyingly don't end up getting built. New Mayfield and Park Square both spring to mind. (By the way, the teams aren't silos. You get people across multiple offices collaborating.)

Yeah well Westpac house hasn’t fallen down yet so I guess Woods Baggot are pretty good

Here's the development plans: https://www.saplanningcommission.sa.gov ... hments.pdf
Couple of new perspectives and façade materials/context: Things that stood out to me:
The Hines Group may (IMO should) contribute to a streetscape upgrade. To their credit, they have form in this area having contributed to an upgrade of Hindmarsh Square in front of the Pullman (formerly Crowne Plaza) Hotel. Hopefully, this results in a shared zone with the Rundle Mall treatment extended through to Grenfell Street.
They've really tried to jam in these poor students. The 6 bedroom apartments wherein the communal space is a tiny kitchen and bench bar are especially crowded (IMO, the 5 bedroom apartment with dining/lounge area should have been the maximum model). Given this, I think the communal areas are pretty miserly, even though the developer significantly expanded them through the pre-lodgement process.
There's only 21 bike spaces for 510 students.
Exposed concrete core on south elevation! It's far more minimal then we've seen in other developments, but WHY! They've justified it as representing the core in 3D because it's plain concrete on the interior. But even white paint would be better than bare given the aesthetic in the round. I guess we should be grateful that we're actually getting a western façade?
Building approval is subject to final approval of façade materials. Both the Government Architect and Heritage SA recommended further refinement. I think it's highly likely that the façade will end up looking different to what's proposed/pictured here.

Because good in situ concrete looks way better than white paint.SRW wrote: ↑Wed Oct 31, 2018 11:36 amExposed concrete core on south elevation! If it's done with craftsmanship. But I still think it's at odds with with the rest of the faces, especially given the designers offer 'singularity' as their ethos.Nathan wrote: ↑Wed Oct 31, 2018 11:58 amBecause good in situ concrete looks way better than white paint.SRW wrote: ↑Wed Oct 31, 2018 11:36 amExposed concrete core on south elevation! Isn't the southern elevation facing the Ibis tower anyway? So who will really see it?

Soil testing taking place this morning, and street has been heavily marked up for what looks like plumbing works to go in.
