a 2 floor limit is just ridiculous, along Henley Beach Rd alone there are several buildings which exceed this 2 floor height limit. If they dont meet the limit they need to either be torn down or have the height limits adjusted to match the existing maximum. I think the problem here is councils have too much power for planning, and while demand the government to build light-rail, refuse to agree to increasing population density which would not only increase demand for it, but also increase its viability when buses are running past every few min full and have to leave people behind.

Pop-up bars push for Adelaide's inner suburbs
Successful in reinvigorating Adelaide's CBD alleyways, pop-up bars are now the toast of inner city councils.

The small venue, capped patron capacity bars have peaked the interest of an eastern suburbs council and southern trading organisation, with hopes the CBD-only legislation will soon be changed to broaden operational areas.

New high density residential developments have opened several opportunities for the pop-up style bars, Norwood Payneham and St Peter’s Council Mayor - Robert Bria.

“The new planning rules that came into effect in Kent Town in November last year which provide for multistorey residential developments in those areas, I think, provides an opportunity to activate some spaces,” Mr Bria said.

With limited hours of operation and patron capacity capped at 120, Mr Bria said the pop-up bars were a perfect fit for low traffic, high residential areas.

They are a trend that many local business organisations have been eying off since the CBD-only introduction.

The pop-up bars in Adelaide’s CBD have attracted a different style of pseudo-boutique patrons to the more traditional bars and nightclubs.

John Karran, chairman of the King William Road Traders Association, said southern inner suburbs areas were also keen to introduce the pop-up bars.

“It looks really exciting, some of the things you can achieve, but unfortunately at the moment we are just limited by the change of legislation to what the city has got for the suburbs,” Mr Karran said.

The King William Road Traders Association unsuccessfully applied for a pop-up licence in October last year but Mr Karran was hopeful legislation would soon change to allow the bars to be introduced outside of the CBD.

The small bar legislation was introduced to the South Australian Parliament November 28, 2012 as a way to encourage patrons back into lesser used laneways and areas of the city.

THE Taplin Group is planning a $15 million overhaul of Marden Shopping Centre, creating about 200 construction jobs and 25 new retail positions.

The group has applied to Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Council to build a larger Woolworths, three new specialty shops and 39 extra carparks.

If approved, work could start as early as December.

A 5-level mixed use development by Chasecrown for the land at 97 King William Street at Kent Town came before the DAC on September 11, whereby it was deferred. The proposal includes basement parking, lower level retail, 18 residential apartments and a roof terrace.

Following a number of small amendments, this development was granted planning approval by the DAC.

This plot of land opposite the Centennial Park cemetary (Goodwood Rd) has just sold. A decent parcel of land, and slightly elevated, so some decent views down towards the city.

It was announced in the advertiser in the past week that Bunnings had bought the former Panorama TAFE site from the govt and was going through the re-zoning/planning process.

It was a month or two ago, but yes, those plans. Perfect for visiting deceased relatives in the morning and then picking up some no-more-gaps and a sausage on the way home.

No point starting a new thread yet, but in the business section of the 'tiser today that Asian Pacific Group (Vue, The Watson) are interested in the ABC building in Collinswood should the ABC/Government want to offload it. Also mentioned that Vue had sold 197 out of 207 apartments.
