DPTI wrote:RIVERBANK FOOTBRIDGE - PRELIMINARY SITE INVESTIGATION WORKS
Preliminary site investigation drilling works in the River Torrens for the footbridge will begin today.
To complete these works, a drilling rig will be lowered by crane onto a large barge in the river. The unpowered barge will be moved into place by a small boat and anchored into position with four ropes extending around 20 metres away from each corner, restricting the accessible waterway to approximately 30 metres wide.
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) and its contractors have notified users of the River Torrens that space will be restricted while these preliminary site investigation works are underway.
As the works will be undertaken on weekdays, DPTI will ensure upcoming planned events along the river, such as rowing and Dragon Boat regattas, are still able to go ahead as planned on weekends.
The drilling is expected to be completed by mid-November, weather permitting.
DPTI thanks the community and River Torrens users for the patience and support while these important works are carried out.

Thanks .... I don't think I've seen a render to that level of detail.
Have you seen one of the North Tce side? It was really plain and bland from the initial renders .... seriously hope the designers have improved it!

Convention Centre accelerates
source: http://dpti.sa.gov.au/newconnections/article?item=233
The Adelaide Convention Centre redevelopment will take advantage of the January closure of the Adelaide Railway Station to accelerate its works in the rail corridor.
With no trains coming into the station for about five weeks works can proceed without the constraints of operating adjacent to running rail services.
During the break much of the spine of the new building will be installed.
The steel plaza deck over the rail corridor will be erected and two, 60-metre long supporting trusses will be installed.
The more than 1500 tonnes of steel needed will be delivered and erected using three additional cranes and boom lift equipment.
The works will see the gap closed between the current building and the Montefiore Bridge.
The inbound lanes on Montefiore Bridge will be closed during the works to give room for delivery and installation of steel.
The remaining lanes will be managed to assist traffic flow during peak times. In the morning two lanes will be used for inbound traffic and one for outbound. This will be reversed in the afternoon.
The expansion will deliver more than 4,300 square metres of new convention floor and is expected to be completed by late 2014.

I'm not sure if this is still the thread for the Casino and other Riverbank developments, but...
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/sout ... 6540002897adelaidenow wrote:SKYCITY will be allowed to more than double the number of gaming tables at Adelaide Casino and install an extra 500 poker machines, in a deal that paves the way for a massive expansion.
Treasurer Jack Snelling will announce today that SkyCity Entertainment Group's licence will be updated in an agreement that blocks rival casinos in Adelaide until 2035.
The State Government wants the casino to become a feature attraction of the new Riverbank precinct.
It will provide entertainment for up to 50,000 people expected to attend the new Adelaide Oval each weekend.
Mr Snelling said the deal included the casino paying more tax, bringing it closer to regulations imposed on poker machines in pubs and clubs.
However, it is expected to provoke anger in the charity and social services sectors. In February, SkyCity revealed its vision for the casino, which included a hotel, VIP suites, restaurants, bars and a spa and rooftop pool.
It said the work would not require the removal of any part of the current heritage building.Mr Snelling said he was confident the proposed deal, which needs approval from the Independent Gambling Authority, struck the right balance.
"The negotiations have taken time but we have secured a win for South Australian taxpayers and increased measures to combat problem gambling," he said.
The deal is forecast to return an extra $60 million to the state Budget over the coming four years, including a $20 million up-front payment.
in recent years, as sales and property incomes decline rapidly.
Last month, it sold the right to sell SA Lotteries products to Tatts for a $427 million jackpot.
Under the new licence, SkyCity can have 1500 gaming machines, up from the current 995, and 200 tables, up from 90.
Some will be reserved for "premium" areas to lure international and interstate high rollers.
Taxes on poker machines in the casino will be lifted from 34.4 to 41 per cent, and the charge on table games will rise from 0.9 to 3.4 per cent.
Mr Snelling said the deal also imposed "the strongest responsible gambling measures applied to any casino in Australia". They include:
TECHNOLOGY to ensure poker machines are capable of pre-commitment, in line with Federal Government policy.
AUTOMATIC "risk monitoring systems" to identify reckless gambling behaviour and allow staff to step in.
MACHINES with $5 maximum bets, which is lower than current settings but well above the $1 limit wanted by anti-problem gambling campaigners.
Those restrictions will be written into legislation when State Parliament returns next year.
It means the Liberals and minor parties may be able to push for different restrictions when the plan is brought forward.
Mr Snelling said the casino would have to buy pokies entitlements from the Approved Trading System, a trading network that is aimed at reducing overall poker machine numbers.
The system removes from the gaming sector one in every four machines sold by hotels.
If the casino cannot find enough willing poker machine sellers among hotels and clubs, the Government will create new machine entitlements.
However, those machines will be placed in "premium" gaming areas and the casino barred from selling them.
Mr Snelling said compliance would be overseen by the Independent Gambling Authority.

Would love for Packer owned Crown Casinos to take over ours, they are doing some big things interstate. Nevertheless this is big news and will allow the casino to transform into a much bigger tourist drawcard and hopefully lose the RSL feel.
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Convention Centre | $350m
it is good news that the casino is going to upgrade
I just wished there was a more definitive timeframe - it build your hotel and other things by x or we'll let someone else in.
ideally, construction would commence at the end of the AO upgrade as to retain employed people in the district.

hmm, interesting. i wonder what the Casino agreement entails from a greater riverbank precinct perspective. No mention in that article of built environment extensions beyond a cursory note about additional restaurants & bars.
Seems a missed opportunity by the govt - the negative feedback they'll receive re increased gambling could have been offset/deflected by riverbank discussion, unless it's not part of the deal?

THE developer behind the controversial Buckland Park housing development has been given exclusive rights to prepare development plans for the Adelaide Festival Centre carpark and Riverbank precinct.
State Cabinet has accepted the bid by the Walker Corporation - over five other submissions - to prepare the development proposal and feasibility study at its own cost. In return, Walker Corp receives a five-month period of exclusivity but with no promise the Government has to act on any development proposal.
Walker Corp, which has donated more than $25,000 to State Labor over the past seven years, will spend the next five months liaising with the private sector and government agencies.
The arrangement comes two years after the Government approved Walker Corp's application to build the $2 billion Buckland Park satellite suburb.
A spokeswoman for Infrastructure Minister Patrick Conlon said Walker Corp's Riverbank offer was accepted because it had a "considerable track record" in similar projects, such as Sydney's King St and Finger wharfs.
The SA Government sought private sector investment in the Riverbank precinct early this year, after releasing its Riverbank Masterplan. In August, interested parties were asked to lodge proposals for the Festival Centre carpark and Riverbank.
"The Walker Corporation's submission was rated highly against the selection criteria and was recommended unanimously by the selection panel," Mr Conlon's spokeswoman said.
Arts Minister John Hill presented a business case to Cabinet earlier this year for a centre upgrade that included increased parking to more than 1300 cars, turning the festival plaza into a square plus new theatres, foyers and rehearsal spaces. Walker Corp declined to comment.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
