Field Street much improved, but ACC really needs to kick its addiction to asphalt footpaths and public spaces. Very poor idea in our summer climate.

I've seen this method employed in Bowden which could prove to be a good quality, cheaper alternative to plain bitumen. Essentially when driving on the roads in Bowden, you'll notice that between each pair of trees planted on the roadside, they break up the bitumen roadway with what looks like paving. It's actually bitumen that they've stuck a series of rubber mats over the top of and then used a heat stencil to create the 'brick paver' effect, these mats also have a traction element to them so they're non-slip. I'll get a picture next time I'm walking around Bowden.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 3:55 pmField Street much improved, but ACC really needs to kick its addiction to asphalt footpaths and public spaces. They do this a lot around Bowden, it's quite neat. I'm not sure why they don't consider this more often in terms of softening laneways and even as a cheaper option to paving the outer CBD streets (rather than leaving it as bitumen). Also too, King William Road in the Unley Council region, this would have been a cheaper and most robust option than repaving the whole street...
The James Place laneway connecting Rundle Mall and Grenfell Street is getting a $1.5 million upgrade, while Charles Street nears completion of its pedestrian-only transformation. See the pictures.
The Adelaide City Council today announced they’ll revitalise James Place, with the state government committing $500,000 towards upgrading the north-south thoroughfare running behind the recently completed $450 million King William Street tower development.
The upgrade to James Place will include high-quality paving, feature lighting, public artwork, bollards and greening.
