Where did I say I didn't like it?

Here are some photos I took, from two Sundays ago (17/1/2016).

Of course not - I'd just tend to associate something brown with Melbourne, as opposed to Sydney, Brisbane or the Gold Coast.

Nobody disagrees with any of this. It's still a very good looking building by Adelaide standards, especially at sunset when it turns a golden colour. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone here who hates this building, as on the whole this forum is very much pro-high rise.

It's clearly a quality building with a lot of thought put into its design. Its quality design has also helped reinvigorate the market for high rise apartments in this city, with projects like Bohem, Kodo and those apartments on Flinders and Franklin to hopefully get going soon.

However, the brown colour is, for me at least, a bit of a letdown for a few reasons:

The brown doesn't look as good as the render that depicts a blue/grey glass facade. More a personal preference granted, but I don't find brown to be a super inviting colour thanks to its connotations with...you know...

However, much of our skyline is brown/beige in colour, including our tallest high rise, our most prominent from the postcard shot (Intercontinental) and our ugliest (Telstra Exchange). For a building that's meant to change our skyline, it really doesn't change our skyline's profile much owing to the fact that it's a similar colour to buildings that already exist in abundance. If it was a more blue/grey colour, I think it would stand out far more and have a greater impact on our skyline.

Thirdly, as it's a dark colour, it masks some of the subtle detail that the architects clearly put a lot of time into designing, especially from a distance, such as how it changes shape as it rises as EBG pointed out. This in part is what prevents it from being as much of a standout as the render made it seem.

At the end of the day, architecture is very much subjective. It's not that unreasonable to complain about the colour.

Hi all, great forum you got here.

So far have thought this building looks a bit average up close, but after today I think it looks great from a distance. I saw it this morning from the bottom of the freeway driving back in to the city (couldn't stop to take a photo unfortunately ). It looked very prominent and quite a striking building. It actually makes the Optus building look a lot better too- not quite so daggy sitting out there on its own.

In a climate such as Adelaide, we have no business building dark brown or black buildings. The heat load from these colours in adelaides hot sunny climate means these dark, non reflective finishes should be avoided at all cost. Aesthetics? Well as they say beauty is in the eye of ....

I think you should direct this more to the eve-less mcmansions of Mawson Lakes and Northgate, because the heat load of a skyscraper that shares a roof with the next floor is far more efficient (whatever the colour) than 40 houses with no verandahs or eves and no shade over western facing windows. There are also balcony's that will act as shade

BTW I love the brown and the look of this building. Its very classy and interesting, not boring like the concrete slab boxes going around. Brilliant job

Today, 31 Jan 2016 painters were painting the exposed circular column on the North Eastern corner facing king William St, Starting from the top down. Also there is a light weight structure at the roof level. Not sure what it use is.

I think the crane will be taken down soon.

Three apartments had lights on tonight, from ground level it looked like all the interiors walls have been installed and other interior installation were taking shape. I'd say in the month ahead we'll see the crane come down, the footpath returned and the lower level apartments being moved into.

Any news on tenants for the ground level shopfronts?
