Charles Street. Reminds me of when I first moved to Adelaide and how disappointed I was the council couldn’t have matched the pavers on Rundle Mall after what I assumed was them digging up sections of the street over the years. A friend told me it was all new and supposed to be like that.

Never been a fan of the pattern either but at least it was consistent and was restrained to two colours. I don't know why this lighter paver type has been thrown in for Charles Street.

The lighter paving down the centre and the renders match pretty closely. Still happy to see them investing in these laneways though.

Anything is an improvement, but where's the street furniture, trees, planter boxes? From that picture, it's literally a paved void. What's the point of removing vehicle access if you're not going to do something worthwhile and pedestrian oriented with the space?
I have the same sentiments for Rundle Mall itself, it's a soulless space. I was big on the upgrade when it happened (perhaps because the renders depicted something very different to what we got), and now with the new trees matured it's looking good in that respect but it completely lacks character and feels cheap and nasty. The tree base covers are second rate and frankly dangerous in wet weather, the pond they've built for the fountain outside Adelaide Arcade doesn't serve its function (too small to catch the water from the fountain) and doesn't match the fountain at all, the temporary nature of the pop up traders in the mall generally doesn't look very appealing, and the use of fake turf to give some colour to mall is probably the last straw. Why can't we have fixed, purpose built planter boxes in the mall? Why did they remove the Gawler Place canopy and replace it with a useless alternative? Don't even get me started on their Christmas displays.
Bourke Street Mall, for instance has massive planter boxes with seating around them. Queen Street Mall has a massive atrium smack bang in the middle.
ACC should spend some money bringing back some character to the Mall.

Good idea - I'll send Mali and his little helpers my Christmas wish list.

Looks ok for the time being, but when winter hits and things get dirty or wet, I don't think it will look very good

It's the image, the pavers are great. I wish they used these throughout the mall, might nicer colour and they actually have traction.

And to be fair the ACC are pretty good at keeping the mall pavers clean and chewing gum free. I've never lived anywhere else where indoor floor cleaning machines are routinely used on an outside mall.

They definitely do a good job with this.
Charles Street is a massive improvement, but really hoped to see a bit of greenery at the Rundle end.
