A $15 million medical centre with a state-of-the-art chemotherapy centre will be built on the vacant block on the corner of Hutt St and South Tce.
Site developer the Cambridge Group has announced the development will be leased by St Andrew's Hospital.
The three-storey St Andrew's Medical Centre will include specialists' consulting rooms, a pharmacy and pathology labs.
The site, which has sat vacant since a surgery was demolished about 10 years ago, has been earmarked for several developments in the past, including residential apartments in 2004 and offices in 2005.
The project's proponents are hoping the development will be a catalyst for further street development and improve the gateway to the city.
St Andrew's Hospital chief executive Stephen Walker said the centre would help strengthen the south-east corner as a medical hub.
"It means we can provide a cancer service to the South Australian community into the future,'' he said.
The medical centre is set to be completed by mid 2013

The upgrade of 41 Currie Street was mentioned a while back but it was in the Commercial section of today's paper. The upgrade is due to commence soon:
Nothing too special but the external changes are an improvement on the current appearance of the building:

Re: CBD Development: Low/Mid-Rise
Looks like there will be better interaction with Topham Mall, eg cafe.
Re: CBD Development: Low/Mid-Rise
Better than it looks right now but I hope this is just something to keep the site On Hold for a couple of years until we see something more substantial there to block out the view of the tired Westpac building from the west.
Re: CBD Development: Low/Mid-Rise
Don't know about the Golden North Lime Ice Cream smeared down the northeast corner - it's an unusual colour but it might grow on me. Certainly an improvement anyway.

Check out the top left section of the westpac building in that render. Apparently there is no north facing wall on the upper levels

Re: CBD Development: Low/Mid-Rise
It does, but in that nice mid-century modern kind of way. As long as they don't cheap out on the quality of the cladding, I think it will look quite nice.cometthecat wrote:Looks a bit 70s to me

No photo but glass is now installed on the Lexus (West Tce) Showroom. Looks much better than I expected after the Subaru showroom.
