Relax people.

Just quietly i don't understand all the love for fed square period. I think it's a concrete jungle with no architectural merit and is lifeless a majority of the time. I assume contrary to what most think. And I highly rate Melbourne CBD culture

I think as long as the lighting serves it's purpose at night giving sufficient and effective lighting it might be worth the compromise on the day time aesthetics.

I don't think I've ever seen it "lifeless" to be fair. Even when there isn't an event on, there are still plenty of people spilling into it from the surrounding bars/offices/museums, etc.

The remaining 2 poles were erected last night. there are now 4 in total. The ones near rundle mall appear to be ahhh "ribbed for her pleasure"..

In other news the "Ginger" Rundle mall mascot is dead and they will be starting new branding shortly. I walked past an event this morning in Lindes Lanes which was invite only and had posters "What is being unwrapped in the mall". Not sure if related or maybe something to do with a new store.

Yeah, they fucked this one up big time with the poles and lighting system.

Massively disappointed. It's a let down to what has otherwise been a stellar improvement to the area.

So 6 weeks since the poles went up and nothing since. The council needs to pull their head out of their ***. Our "premier" shopping precinct has not had permanent lighting for coming up to 2 and a half years now. Nowhere else in the world would this happen. Sort it out.

+1. Also begs the question as to why the poles are required? I noticed they've put support bolts on a majority of the mall's buildings, why are the poles still necessary??

Hopefully they prove superfluous then.

I heard from someone (who has a business is in the mall) that it was the building owners who wouldn't allow the support brackets/bolts/catenary lightning to be put onto their buildings that the engineers had to resort to putting up these poles to support the catenary lighting. Also supposed to be up/working in August.

Meanwhile on Bank St some kind of similar catenary lights have been put up in the last few weeks.

heard the same thing from people in the building services industry. It appears whilst in principle agreement was given, that changed.
