Post your practical ideas to stay cool in a heatwave?

Hasn't this week been a stinker! And what's worse we're in for another week or so more of this.
So what are your practical (efficient?) ideas to stay cool in a heatwave?
Let me start :
- If you've got an air-conditioning unit on a wall facing the sun install some shading on it, it'll work much better and save you money.
- Cover your windows with shading.
- When practical at night try to use fans instead of air-conditioning.
- If you've got pot plants try to use them to shade your building (obviously they won't shade much other than a few windows but that could make a difference).
How about everyone else have a go?

* Your A/C will work more effectively (and save you $$$) if you close off rooms that don't need cooling (e.g. bathroom, spare bedroom)
And if you don't have airconditioning (like me - i feel soo stupid at the moment):
- * Close all curtains/blinds - darker means cooler
* Go and hang out at your local cafe. Take your fav book along and crash for an hour or two
* Restart your friendship with anyone who has a pool ("g'day Frank, yes i know we haven't spoken in 8 years...you still got that pool?")
* get nude!...(but not in public please - for those of you who might take my advice literally)

Due to an annoying lack of three phase here I have no A/c what I do is open the place up during the night and early morning and try to shoo yesterday's heat out. Then after the sun rises I close everything up again. Al I have to keep my cool is a fan, I point it at me on medium.
This plan is fine if it's not humid.
Only problem is my productivity slows down and clients' jobs get delayed. I really need an A/c office.
But can I at least say that I'm supporting the environment?

- Take a tour on the bus or train, all trains and most buses are Airconditioned
- Go to shopping centres for the day, and buy lunch or bring your own
- Make sure your house has insulation or Airconditioning, preferrably with a timer for nights
- Try to do as little as possible
- Have few electronics on as they all generate heat
- Buy a weekly at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre

BSB #1 - I was an early customer...
Carbon offsets seem like a scam to me. If entity A isn't pissing in the lemonade then entity B can pay entity A so that entity B can piss in the lemonade...

Put a hat in a freezer for a day or so and then wear it.

Get a cat to fan a block of ice for you or steal the neighbour's air conditioning. A very cheap solution
