DARWIN DREAMING
I was transferred to Darwin with my employer back in 1983. I met my wife there and my daughter was born there, so it holds a special place in my heart. Have been back in Adelaide for 10 years, but still manage to get back to Darwin almost annually. The population is about double what it was when I first arrived and here's an example of the incredible development going on at present.
Saville Pandanus 29fl
Knuckey Street
One30 Esplanade
Proposed tower
Admiralty House
Cullen Bay
Mitchell Street East
.....and there's plenty more happening. Onward and upwards young city.

Re: DARWIN DREAMING
Yes, Darwin is certainly going from strength to strength. I don't mind at all the look of some of those residential buildings - Pandanas reminds me a little bit of Adelaide's Embassy, and One30 Esplanade and Cullen Bay seem quite appealing.

Re: DARWIN DREAMING
My role at work involves looking after SA & NT, so i am fortunate enough to travel to the top end at least once or twice a year for a few weeks.
Anyone who has seen the NT News will know that it has pretty random articles in it. However, i have lifted a few of the construction related ones that were printed in the 2 weeks i was in Darwin.

I decided to create a thread known as 'Darwin & NT Guide" which features information on Darwin and Northern Territory including stats, maps, statistics, links, projects, tallest buildings etc.. Before I created this thread it was pretty hard to know what actually was happening in Darwin aswell as the great things the city already offers (such as vibrant nightlife) however now I think this guide showcases Darwin very well and its useful.
Thinking of creating a larger guide for SA on S-A & SSC, though it would take forever and AtD already has the project list under control, however I might just merge the links for his excellent project list/maps and the my regional projects thread to a potential "Adelaide & SA Guide" which would be good cause then I wont have to keep updating it (accept for regional). Thats if your fine with that AtD?
Feedback welcome

Their CBD height limit is 120m AHD.
The tallest building (Evolution?) is already maxed at at limit. So they can't go higher than Westpac at present, unless regulations are modified.

which city do you think will be the first to relax its height limits?Shuz wrote:Their CBD height limit is 120m AHD.

the demand for apartments is certainly there in darwin.
Re: DARWIN DREAMING
I did see an article in the paper whilst i was up there about the fact the Government want to actually make their heighht regulations more stringent.
More to the point, some of the latest buildings proposed or under construction breach the height limits and they were awarded 'special merit' to bypass this. They basically want to close this 'loophole'.
So in that case, it might actually be Adelaide that gets our wish for taller buildings b4 Darwin

Re: DARWIN DREAMING
Thanks for the photos!
I must say that I am really quite impressed with both the amount and height of construction in Darwin. Certainly not what I expected, but I'm very pleased all the same.
That said, from the photos posted, it really doesn't look as though it's a city for the pedestrian. What's it like a streetlevel?
