I wouldn't say Australia is boring. If everything was the same in every country, that would be boring.

There is nowhere you can party like you can in Thailand, or the Greek islands, Ibiza, or Cancun for example.
Similarly the cultural stuff in 'old Europe', Paris, London, Rome, Madrid, Athens etc.
America with it's giant theme parks, Hollywood etc.
China with the Great Wall, Tienanmen Square, the Forbidden City, and of course Hong Kong.

Let's face it, most people who travel do so to see and do something different. That doesn't make Australia a boring place.

I'll be visiting Australia next month. Since it's going to be my first time there, I don't think the country is boring.

As someone who's looked at migration and long vacation, you don't have the perception of being 'boring'.

The issue is cost and time. Most of my fellow Americans don't get enough time off to make a vacation worthwhile. I read somewhere that the average American gets something like 8.25 days of vacation a year -- including sick time. Fortunately for me, I get about 4 weeks off. That's exceptional for one of us. One of the advantages of being a middle manager at a bank, I suppose. Flights to Sydney cost about 3-4 times a flight to London (which I can get direct). It would cost us, a family of 3, $5,000+ (US) just to get there. If there was a way to make it more economical, I would be there in a second.

There's plenty to do. Visit Sydney Harbor and Opera House. Wine country. Check out Darwin and the tropical stuff. Go up to the Gold Coast, visit the Great Barrier Reef. Take one of those trains that goes across the country. Maybe someone will show me how you actually play cricket! I'm sure my family and I could find plenty of stuff. Australia is WAY SAFER than the U.S.. That thought never even crossed my mind.

This blog is full of crap. Period.

I like what Ben Folds said when he was asked by a Sydney radio station why he was going to live in Adelaide (when he did) He said "Adelaide is to Australia what Australia is to the rest of the world"
