ADELAIDE will host its biggest party on March 13 when the return of Skyshow erupts over the Clipsal 500 track and a crowd tipped to reach 150,000.
The firepower of social networking site Facebook has delivered the return of the SAFM Skyshow after a three-year break - and Clipsal 500 organisers have secured the fireworks display, which will be synchronised to music, for the Saturday night of the carnival.
Paramedic and mother of three Melissa Turner was shocked to hear yesterday that her quest to bring back the SAFM Skyshow, which became an Adelaide institution over 22 years of consecutive displays until 2006, had worked.
She began the Facebook group Bring Back The SAFM Skyshow, which last night had more than 10,500 members and caught the attention of the radio station, new event sponsor Stratco and the Clipsal 500 organisers.
"Skyshow was a big icon in my life growing up," Ms Turner said.
"We would travel from the country and make a day of it in Bonython Park. We all loved it.

From what I remember the Skyshow was an all-day music and drinking in a park day culminating in fireworks. This 'return' is a fireworks display for the Clipsal 500, which has a fireworks display anyway. How is this a Skyshow? It sounds like the Clipsal guys saw that the label 'skyshow' would garner interest in what they are putting up.

REALLY?!
If so, HALLELUJAH!!
I remember seeing it from the Adelaide airport back in 2006!
I don't know all the sponsors but may include Foodland, Adelaide Bank, Bunnings and Harvey Norman...

Who wants to bet that the Skyshow Facebook site was started by somebody in SAFM's promotions department?

Today's Skyshow Day!
On what time does it start, and when do the fireworks begin?

Who went to the Skyshow? I know i did, great concert, atmosphere, appeared alot more people attended than the previous Skyshow held at Bonython Park. The night ended with two firework displays at the same time. I think it was a good move to held it in March, hope it returns in 2011.

I drove through the city last night and there were massive crowds on
Rundle Street and also North Terrace. I would say it will be back next year. It draw
people into the city and creates a party atmosphere.

It was certainly good timing coinciding with the last night of the Fringe as well. I had to work so couldn't attend but it sounds like Adelaide CBD would have been an amazing place to be last night!

Yes it was!
It reminded me of NYE in Sydney.

I really really hate that the fringe coincides with the boganfest of the Clipsal

Agreed. We went shopping on Rundle St on Saturday, and a number of traders were complaining that patronage was actually down for the weekend, as the Clipsal 500 was actually scaring off the Fringe crowd from previous weeks.

adelaide last night was the busiest i've ever seen it. no kidding.
the clipsal, however, is a gross celebration of all things wrong with the world. pity the fringe crowds have to negotiate with such an event.
