Brisbane's historic Regent Theatre to be demolished

#1 Post by Hindley Street Alley » Mon May 31, 2010 10:35 am

Just heard about this - sorry if it's been posted before.

When I visited Brisbane 2 years ago and went to the Regent Theatre in their mall, I was jelous! I thought:
Wow! This is a grand old building, and unlike Adelaide's Regent Theatre, it's still running and in well-attended..

Now I hear they're demolishing it! and it's not like Brisbane is teaming with grand old buildings either... kinda disappointing to hear that it's to be demolished for a 38 storey office building then...

This is quite disturbing, because Brisbane already lacks many historic and cultural buildings.

So whilst cities such as Brisbane and Perth may claim to be modern, they will surely never be called elegant.

I find Brisbane CBD overall at street level to be totally awful, so things like this should be kept
