Something I've noticed in the Sydney Morning Herald from a fortnight ago:
AAP

Adelaide is the country's best-planned and most functional city, while Sydney languishes in last place.

Property groups have commissioned a KPMG audit which ranks capitals on effective city planning, including managing population growth, traffic congestion, and housing affordability.

It seems to have gone unnoticed in Adelaide. But is there actually any advantage to topping these surveys?

A) It means that another anti-Adelaide article isn't written in the Advertiser
B) It means there isn't a massive hate-fest/let's move to sed city on the AdelaideNow comments section.

Hold the presses, everyone! I can see the headline now: 'City with largest population has most cars, people'

Don't forget to end your article with obligatory marginally related comment from some random punter, something like:

Debra Spankwarbler, who runs a Wash-a-Woofa franchise in North Park Gardens, is happy that Adelaide's name begins with the letter 'A'. "It's great that our city's name comes before "Sydney" or "Melbourne". Good thing we didn't choose "Dadelaide" or Brisbane would have beaten us."

I am shocked and appalled that I missed this crucial component of quality journalism. Please find it in your heart to forgive this heinous transgression!

Every time I read something like that, I can't help but think of all the fake news stories that would come up on the news-ticker in SimCity.

They make me think of the spoof tabloid articles in Viz magazine: "Newsagent awards himself 4000% payrise - Residents of Dudson Hollow are outraged that newsagent Dennis Critchley has increased his salary to more than 1.4 million pounds ..."
