Those arriving on unseaworthy vessels will be processed offshore, but anyone arriving on a seaworthy vessel will be processed in Australia.

Cattle boats to Indonesia would be allowed to carry refugees on the return journey.

Why is it bad? I said in the original Rudder Party thread that I'd announce some policies in a different thread to see how it changes people's opinions. Nobody raised an objection when I told them I'd do so - so why is it so bad when I keep my word?

Is it the fact that I started with a controversial policy that makes it bad? With hindsight I should've started with infrastructure, but I was rather tired and I thought the refugee policy would be quicker to explain.

Is it the policy itself that you think is bad? If so, why should I feel bad? It avoids the cruelty of Howard's policy (which Gillard seems determined to replicate) yet it also avoids the situation where refugees are put in terrible danger. And when so many refugees want to go to Australia in whatever boat will take them, why should the cattle boats have to return here empty?

The original thread was silly as well because it completely ignored the reality of how our system of government works.

Let's say your Rudder party gets the balance of power. It goes without saying that they wouldn't support a Coalition government, so then it comes down to a choice of either supporting Labor with the current Labor leader, or forcing the country to a new election, at which point your new party will likely be punished by the electorate.

What's the point of any of this?
