Not sure where to put this.

I was thinking over Adelaide's dev't since 1980 and came to a conclusion that now is the time of out 'awakening' - where the city is about to 'take off' per se. This is based on development expenditure, proposals, construction etc etc Ie
New Desal plant ( near $1.5 bn)
New Hospital - huge - 80o beds (Well over $2bn)
Electrification of the railways (part of transport dev't in Adelaide - I think over $2bn)
New convention centre and riverbank development
Adelaide oval developments (with bridge) to cater for 50000
Redeveloping Sth Expressway to 4 lanes
Nth Expressway dev't,
All the CBD dev't - 11 cranes - highest ever and posssibly reaching 20 in 2012.
Mining boom coming on - with ODX ready to go. (Biggest number of operating mins in the state in 100 years AFAIK).
The Tramline extension/s and plans for the future.

Note - most of the above has never happened before on such a scale - esp. all at once.

I had the same thoughts about Brisbane and came up with 1988 - the expo year - the place changed substantially since then. I think Adelaide is on the cusp of the very same thing.
A fantastic future ahead!!

And I'd include the airport redevelopment and car park in that list too, particularly given AAL have indicated further development of terminal 1 to cater for increasing demand.
