[COM] North Terrace Streetscape Upgrade

#1 Post by UrbanSG » Thu Jun 29, 2006 10:29 pm

I'm sure everyone is aware of this project, but I couldn't locate a thread on it.

Found this render for Stage Two of the North Terrace upgrade on the ACC website. I haven't seen it before, not sure if it has been posted previously. Doesn't show much detail but it appears similar to Stage One. Stage Two was meant to start a fair while back but there have been arguements between the government and council over the slip lane for Frome Road. In this render you can see the lane is gone and makes way for a nice water feature and paving. This should occur to give pedestrian priority in my opinion. That corner can be a bit dangerous for pedestrians and cars take up too much space there. Stage Two needs to occur urgently, the state of that part of North Terrace is embarrassing. Hopefully it isn't too far off.

As a padestrian, I would like to see that slip lane be removed. There's too much foot-traffic crossing that intersection and it's dangerous. Same thing goes for the corner of King William Rd and North Tce.

Not sure why you can't see it Pants, sorry about that. I know photobucket have been having a few issues, took me ages to upload it last night becuase of the site's issues.

I think the slip lane is still in question even though the render suggests otherwise. That slip lane is particularly dangerous because it is also downhill. It can be hard to see cars comming off from North Terrace ona different level! The one on King William and North Terrace is also bad but will probably stay that way thanks to the Government House entrance being there.

Not sure when they are starting on Stage Two. I couldn't find mention of it anywhere, hopefully soon.

Will be great with Palais development going up just diagonally opposite it.

It'll be nice to sit there and have a cuppa around summer time. :D

Really enhances the heritage university buildings too which were hidden for too long. Stage One shows off all of the amazing heritage of Adelaide Uni and the Art Gallery very well. During summer heaps of people use the Stage One area for lunch breaks etc. Just shows what can be done to public spaces. It is the State Government that is holding Stage Two back with the slip lane dispute, they want it to stay I think. Council wants to start on the part near Pultney while the dispute goes on. GET RID OF THE SLIP LANE! That's my vote :D

It's a shame he Brookman building doesn't actually interface with North Terrace, so the boulevard is of no use as a northern approach route to the University.

In my 3 years at that campus i'd never actually walked in front of the building. I either enter from Frome, or through the dingy alley way between Brookan and that Adelaide Uni building built out of sea shells.

Is there going to be a Stage 3 of the North Terrace development?
