DAC aren't great with descriptions but this will further add to south terraces skyline. I think the comfort inn is on this site now? I'm guessing it will be around 15 levels

Yay another cement box for South Terrace... I bet this will be as innovative as the rest.

Perhaps something like this!Ben wrote:DAC aren't great with descriptions but this will further add to south terraces skyline. I think the comfort inn is on this site now? I'm guessing it will be around 15 levels

I wouldn't be sad to see the Comfort Inn gone. Horrendous waste of prime real estate.

Sorry Mpol, but that's a poor comment. How exactly can you say that before any renders/elevations have even become available to see? Admittedly this site probably won't command an architectural masterpiece, but at least wait for more news before speculating.Mpol wrote:Yay another cement box for South Terrace... Besides, I would not classify any of the three developments currently underway on South Terrace (Citi Terrace, 261-265 or August Towers) as cement boxes. The only real cement box highrise of note on South Terrace is the Grand Chifley (now apparently called the Sage) hotel, and that was built almost 50 years ago.
Speaking of which, is this site right next to that building? Apparently it's called the Country Comfort and it's quite a large site and it looks like a dinky country motel in our CBD(!). It could definitely use a good redevelopment.

My post yesterday has been lost so here it is again.
I think this is my most anticipated development now having seen the renders. Quite unique for Adelaide.
2 towers 1 x 18 and 1 x 15. Tallest is 58 m high.

I reckon we need to push the council into setting minimum standards for architectual merit.slenderman wrote:Sorry Mpol, but that's a poor comment. every building should try and look nice, be user friendly etc.

Those renders.... Wow!
Can't wait to see the southern CBD continue to transform over the next coming years. Exciting times for the area.

Love it. It's sleek, modern and it looks like it integrates well with the pedestrian traffic below. Not to mention the glass looks silvery-grey, which is probably my favourite. I'd say it probably jumps up the list of my most anticipated as well.
I'm pleasantly surprised they pulled this out, as it's not the most prestigious part of the Adelaide CBD. Great to see that architects seem to finally be upping their game in Adelaide after a couple of lean decades.
Only complaint is that I wish they were taller because they're so good looking. They don't have to be our new tallest buildings, but even if they were just increased to 68 and 58m they would be far more prominent in our skyline.
But regardless, these will contribute excellently to our growing southern CBD.

Looks like a double win to me - not only erasing the Comfort Inn but blocking the ill named Grand Chifley from at least one side. The pigeons living in the concrete ledges above each room won't know what to do anymore
At 58m max this I think will be surprisingly prominent from a few vantage points - I'm really surprised how obvious the crane for 261-265 South Terrace is from lots of places in the parklands. And like most others here, the renders hold great promise... even discounting them for the inevitable reality of a physical building in real life lighting etc I think this will be a great addition to the southern side of the city.

This development can do me slowly

I think they're about the perfect height for South Tce; probably even on the very upper end of what's appropriate.
