We’re seeking feedback on the draft concept design for the Main North Road and Nottage Terrace Intersection Upgrade. The Australian and South Australian Governments are jointly funding the $19 million upgrade to improve travel times, network reliability and safety for all users.
We encourage you to provide feedback online www.dpti.sa.gov.au/nottage, by emailing: [email protected] or calling 1300 794 880. Feedback can be provided until COB Friday 8 May.
As part of the early design process, site investigation works to identify the location and depth of utility services in the vicinity of the proposed upgrade site will commence Monday, 27 April, continuing to early May, weather permitting. More info: bit.ly/2RA0hLL

Some of these intersection upgrades seem redundant if they're not going to replace them with interchanges... This intersection for instance, is only bad because the lights need to be re-sequenced. The same with the recently completely OG Road/Payneham Road intersection, it's quite literally changed nothing about the intersection other than some widening of the existing lanes and removal of a slip lane...Eurostar wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 2:13 pmWe’re seeking feedback on the draft concept design for the Main North Road and Nottage Terrace Intersection Upgrade. I'm pleased to see inclusion of a bus priority lane and an extension of the cycling lane.Eurostar wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 2:13 pmWe’re seeking feedback on the draft concept design for the Main North Road and Nottage Terrace Intersection Upgrade. Hopefully there can be a permanent clearway southbound on Main North Road between this intersection and the City Ring Route.
Our state, our city, our future.

The Clearway should be a permanent third lane southbound and that vacant land on eastern side of main north road can be used for bus inlet, truck delivery and any short term customer parking

You mean the western side?Nowlistencarefully wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 11:55 pmThe Clearway should be a permanent third lane southbound and that vacant land on eastern side of main north road can be used for bus inlet, truck delivery and any short term customer parking
There is or was a proposed apartment or motel/hotel development for that site. Its private land, not DPTI land.

Construction has now started at this intersection (Scotty's Corner) with completion expected by years end.
[COM] Re: Main North Road/Nottage Terrace Intersection Upgrade
nothing about it looks quicker
all still the same stop lights just more room for cars to bank up
why have cars northbound stopping at lights? that whole western side could be express thoroughfare
just the cars coming right from nottage could merge in
cant see how any of this is shaving time of the trip

The only thing that's changing seems to be the addition of a bus lane heading out of the city.
There's already 2 lanes heading north on Main North, 2 lanes turning right from Main North to Nottage Tce.
3 lanes heading into the city from Main North, a left hand lane to turn onto Nottage Tce. And there's also a bus slip lane heading into the city at the intersection.
2 lanes from Nottage turning into the city and 2 turning north. And Main North Road from Nottage Tce heading to the city is already 3 lanes.
It's the usual bandaid solution.
They couldn't sink the city bound lanes on Main North through the intersection and the north bound? That way the only stop/traffic light would be turning north east onto Nottage from MNR or from Nottage onto MNR, and traffic can merge further down.
There's a big ol' empty plot of land there, acquire it, maybe acquire one or two other properties on the western side there, should be plenty of room.
But something other then the usual bandaid solutions we usually get would require commitment to actually improve things and not just to get by till the next election campaign.

And the addition of a second right hand turn lane to Nottage Tce from Main North Rd. Other than that, won't be much different.rev wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 12:50 pmHe's not wrong from what I can see either.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 12:11 amSeeing as you're the expert, tell us more.marbles wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 1:29 pmnothing about it looks quicker

If that stops the queue to turn right from blocking the through lanes, then that is still a gain.A-Town wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 5:09 pmAnd the addition of a second right hand turn lane to Nottage Tce from Main North Rd. Other than that, won't be much different.
As with many urban road projects, the people complaining about the current traffic are the traffic they are complaining about!

Probably an overpass [or underpass] is the ideal solution at a cost of only a few hundred million. The question is whether one will still be needed when traffic is worse in say 10- 20 years time and they should look at it now?

Crystal ball time - will traffic be worse in twenty years time, and why? Reasons why it might or might not...how good is he wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 10:20 amProbably an overpass [or underpass] is the ideal solution at a cost of only a few hundred million. - Covid taught us we can work from anywhere. In twenty years, more of us will have houses set up to support work from home, and maybe not even in the urban area if we like living in the country.
- Automated supermarkets and shop online - less staff are needed if the trolley can just be pushed through the RFID reader and everything is scanned. Warehouses set up for robotic pick and pack need less staff than a supermarket
- Autonomous vehicles - will these reduce or increase traffic? They might only reduce the demand for car parking
- Adelaide might have "better" public transport, or maybe the risk of "the next pandemic" will scare most people out of mass transit vehicles.
- Since the 1950s, science fiction has talked about more leisure time...
- Aging population...

That Citybound bus lane should be extended to the Robe Terrace intersection.
[COM] Re: Main North Road/Nottage Terrace Intersection Upgrade
An overpass/underpass seems like a very over-engineered solution for this location that would just feed traffic into other bottlenecks.how good is he wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 10:20 amProbably an overpass [or underpass] is the ideal solution at a cost of only a few hundred million.
