Business case for new SA Pathology laboratory
22 April 2020
This afternoon the Premier Steven Marshall and the Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade announced that the government will look at opportunities to strengthen SA Pathology going into the future.
This follows their announcement this morning that SA Pathology will remain in public ownership.
Several months ago SA Pathology provided the Government with a concept paper for a purpose-built laboratory to optimise their metropolitan lab network. The Government has considered this paper recently given their increased confidence in SA Pathology’s ability to plan and execute.
Over the next six months SA Pathology will develop a business case to firm up the benefits of building a new flagship laboratory of about 14,000 square metres, built in close proximity to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
This will release up to 8,000 square metres of prime hospital space for direct clinical use.
Other benefits include further improving our efficiency and service, to facilitate and enhance multi-disciplinary team meetings, and to further enhance our contribution to research and training. It will also remove approximately 1,000 courier movements from the hospital precinct.
This is very exciting news for SA Pathology, and it ensures we can continue to put the patient at the centre of everything we do.
On behalf of all staff, we would like to thank the State Government and the Department for Health and Wellbeing for their strong commitment and support of
SA Pathology which will enable us to continue to deliver world-class pathology services to all South Australians.
Regards,

Dr Tom Dodd

I wonder if the former HQ/Heaven/New Market site is ideal or will be looked at since their looking at something close to the RAH.
