Highest and Lowest

#1 Post by darksidelemm » Tue Mar 27, 2007 6:16 pm

Was just wondering what are the highest and lowest points the general public can get to in the Adelaide CBD?

Highest is obviously going to be in Santos House, but how high can you go in there? Is there an observation deck or somewhere you can see the view?

On the opposite end of the scale, what is the lowest you can go? I know you can get about 5 levels below Rundle Mall when going down to the Bottom level (Carpark 4) of the Myer Centre, but i'm sure there are levels below that (all these wastewater pipes going down below the floor, would love to know where all of that goes).
What about the Santos Building? How many levels below street level does that go, and can you get there?

Thanks,

That's a good question, I thought they were going to open an observation deck on top of santos house.. or has that fallen through also.

Btw, welcome to the site darksidelemm... glad you could join us.

Cheers, :D

I've already been below street level a bit, (draining) but am still wondering how far below ground level I can get. I know in Melbourne there's a shaft that goes about 6 stories straight down.

For the general public, I believe the highest is Santos House, you can't get to the top floor but you can get onto the one below that. However you'll soon be asked to leave. The lowest, I believe, is as you said, the Myer Centre's car park and loading dock.

So we can't hang around and drop things down the centre of the stairwell, or measure our weight while going up and down the lifts, like we can do in the Schultz building in the Adelaide Uni Campus? (All in the name of Physics by the way)

Is Myer's loading dock really the lowest point? I've been there for pick up, but it didn't really seem that low. But comparing to other under-ground or -under-cover carpark, it is lower.

edgar, there'd be thousands of services that are lower, but the public isn't allowed down there!

What would be the lowest then? I.e. not general public.

Who knows? Typically it's sewage.

Reminds me of the time one of the photographers at overclockers australia (raytracer) got busted going into the sewers of adelaide. dropped his name card in there and received a call from a council worker warning him if he came down again he'd get a fine and goto court lol.

Do you mean sewers or Stormwater drains? They are very different things.

I've been down a few stormwater drains around Adelaide with the Cave Clan.

I'm not sure.. i've been down stormwater drains before and wasn't terribly impressive. Would be interesting to see what our sewers look like though.

Where have you been in your travels with the cave clan? Would be keen on some pics!

Haven't really done a huge amount yet, though I have been down St Peters Twins (a large drain running into the torrens), Zorgas Tomb (extends on from St Peters Twins), and the Pym Street Darkie (A not-very-interesting round concrete pipe that leads to a sticker room).

Hopefully i'll get to go down the Adelaide Darkie soon =)

I'm not sure but the top two floors in the elevator are only accessible by key-card or PIN (cant remember what it was) that's inside the lift.

Many years ago a friend and I attempted to find out how high we could go and tried going up there. We went to the highest one accessible (3rd from the top) and when we walked out a security guard at a desk asked us if we needed any help. We being spooked said no and started retracting backwards. She then stood up and put her had to her side and grasped something (couldn't see what) asking us again if we needed any help.

We got the hell out of there! I wont be doing that gain
