Major redevelopment of the Moseley Square Area
Moseley Square, adjoining Adelaide's Premier Beach - Glenelg, is the major node on Adelaide's Metropolitan Coast. It is the premier seaside destination for visitors and tourists in South Australia.
The construction of the entertainment precinct of Holdfast Shores will provide a new and exciting frontage to the northern side of the square. The next 18 months will also see the redevelopment of the Glenelg tram terminus. The desire and need to upgrade Moseley Square has been reflected in an Urban Design Master Plan which has undergone a broad consultation process and subsequently been approved by Council.
The Master Plan proposes a much improved streetscape appearance with landscaping elements providing more public space for events. Moseley Square will also be integrated into the Metropolitan Coast Park initiative through strong links between the foreshore and the commercial precinct of Glenelg. The area will benefit from new paving, an integrated water feature, street furniture and lighting, a new terrace level integrating with the Holdfast Shores development, new areas of outdoor dining and three times the number of trees that will retain and further reinforce the use of palms as a design theme.
The eastern end of Moseley Square, adjacent to the coast and jetty, will include new paving to accommodate a range of events, including an amphitheatre for smaller events such as outdoor plays.
Council is also looking at new and innovative ways to manage traffic and pedestrians at the Colley Terrace end of the square. The traffic management measures being considered may incorporate a shared pedestrian zone and vehicle slow zone of 10kmph to improve pedestrian access and safety. Negotiations with Trans Adelaide are continuing in respect to relocating the tram terminus further east to increase the area of the square available for the general public.
This project is expected to commence construction in mid 2005 with completion in mid 2006.

This project is well under way. Company called Bardavcol is involved with this project. The western end of the square is mostly fenced off with the ground beginning to be ripped into. I have seen the plans, but cannot find any on the net.
