COM: Adelaide Airport Carpark & Pedestrian Plaza
Re: #UC: 5 lvl Car Park & Pedestrian Plaza - Adelaide Airpor
ADELAIDE Airport short-term parking fees will jump by around 50 per cent when the new multi-storey carpark opens on August 6.
A stay of up to 60 minutes will rise from $4 to $6. Parking for between one and two hours will go from $8 to $12, and a two-to-three-hour stay now costing $11 will rise to $17, a 55 per cent increase.
The tariff increase was the first since the T1 passenger terminal opened in 2006, Adelaide Airport executive general manager of operations Vince Scanlon said.
"Adelaide Airport remains one of the cheapest capital city airports for parking in Australia," he said. "It also brings us into line with what some of the major carparks in the city already charge."
The new five-storey carpark will have 2000 spaces - double the spaces in the existing outdoor facility. About 7000 cars a day are forecast to use the carpark.
On average, users will be closer to T1 than they are using the existing carpark, even though the new building is 50m north of T1.
The carpark is part of a $100 million development that will include a pedestrian plaza and an undercover walkway-bridge between it and T1.
"Customers will now be completely under cover from the moment they enter the carpark until they board their flight," Mr Scanlon said.
He said it would be easier to find a vacant parking spot and people could get to the terminal faster.
The tariff increase would go "some way" towards funding the $100 million development.
Air passengers will still be able to be picked up and dropped off without charge in a new undercover area at the base of the new carpark. The existing pick-up/drop-off zones will be dedicated to bus and taxi services after completion of the carpark, before being permanently closed.
Fees at the long-term carpark remain unchanged (one day at $25, two days at $40 and three days at $50).
Work on the pedestrian plaza will start when the carpark is completed. The plaza is expected to be completed by mid-December.

Encouraging more people to drive to the airport. Okay, but I still get wet if it rains while I'm waiting for the Jetbus...
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

That video is ridiculous.
A new car park does not miraculously erase the traffic on the way to the airport. I really hope that somewhere in the master plan is the option for better public transport to the airport. Tram?

Adelaide Airport don't want a tram, not enough money in it for them, they only care about their on pockets, not about anybody, to them we are just big dollar signs.

There's provision for light rail to the airport in the AA masterplan. Have a read through the Airport transport access thread:Tonsley213 wrote:Adelaide Airport don't want a tram, not enough money in it for them, they only care about their on pockets, not about anybody, to them we are just big dollar signs.cruel_world00 wrote:That video is ridiculous.

True, but it does erase the traffic jams that sometimes occur within the airport.cruel_world00 wrote:That video is ridiculous.

There is, though it's a long term option.I really hope that somewhere in the master plan is the option for better public transport to the airport. Tram?

The new carpark is mostly complete and opens tomorrow, see 'News Release from AAL. http://www.adelaideairport.com.au/asset ... 0final.pdf
This will now allow the construction of the taxi, bus and chauffer vehicle pickup/drop off area.

Just came back from dropping someone off, and I was a bit of a dogs breakfast.
With the old system, arrivals drop offs and departure pick ups were on different levels which made things quite easy.
Now they are both in the same spot with people hussling for position and waiting arrivals darting in front of other traffic to hail their ride. Someone will do themselves a mischief if the new system isnt changed.

Hmmm, that certainly doesn't sound ideal. And the plans for the car park works don't suggest that it's a temporary arrangement, either. Hopefully it gets sorted out.

Looks like they're aware of the problem. Not sure how better signage and line marking will help, though -- you've still got pick-ups and drop-offs together in a space that's effectively half the size of the previous arrangement (if my understanding is correct...?).
Confusion, delay over Adelaide Airport carpark

ADELAIDE Airport has asked passengers to allow extra time while "teething problems" with new drop-off zones are overcome.
The drop-off zones and new multi-level carpark were opened yesterday, causing confusion and delays for motorists.
"The main issues were people getting used to the new arrangement," an airport spokesman said.
"Staff at the airport were monitoring the situation from first thing and as a result of monitoring traffic behaviours there was some improvements to signage during the day.
"It's day one and we're working to improve this as it goes along and once the car park and the drop off zones are fully operational it will be a much better experience."
New signage has been implemented to improve traffic flow and line marking, which was delayed by weekend rain, has also been completed, the spokesman said.

Re: #UC: 5 lvl Car Park & Pedestrian Plaza - Adelaide Airpor
No your understanding isnt correct. The drop off/pick up area is about 3 times the length of the old one, however it is not fully open as construction is still on going. When complete it will be huge.
Still cant believe the stupidity of people who cant follow signs. It is very well sign posted with lots of people in fluoro jackets telling people where to park and go. Its human nature to "freak" out when things have changed and they cant drop off passangers where they used to. Please embrace the change.

Teething problems are to be expected with any major change like this and there will always be those who like to have a whinge.
Having said that, a colleague of mine parked in the new car park yesterday afternoon and said that the new system worked quite well.
