News & Discussion: Parafield Airport

#1 Post by rhino » Tue Nov 06, 2012 8:45 am

From ABC News Online:

Parafield plan cleared for take-off
Updated Mon Nov 5, 2012 8:05pm AEDT
The Federal Government has approved a redrafted master plan for Parafield Airport, paving the way for a significant increase in air traffic at the site.

The Government rejected a previous plan for the flight school in Adelaide's north two years ago because it did not provide accurate information about the hours of flight training, flight paths and noise disruption.

Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese says a revised plan has now been approved with several conditions, including no flights before 8am on weekends and public holidays.

He says a special taskforce will be created to reduce the noise impact of flights on the surrounding suburbs.

Nearby residents told airport management at a public meeting in April the current number of flights already creates too much noise and they opposed any increase.

Parafield provides pilot training programs and is the fifth-busiest airport in Australia for aircraft movements, based on 2010 monitoring.

Mr Albanese says the airport will create an additional 1000 jobs and contribute $296 million to the economy by 2032.

He says the airport has 10 weeks to make its master plan public.
Parafield is the fifth busiest airport in Australia for aircraft movements! Who knew?
cheers,

Yeh, the general aviation airports are usually the busiest because of all the flight training, etc, that they do. According to Wikipedia, in 2010 Sydney was busiest followed by Jandakot (in Perth), Bankstown (Sydney) and Moorabbin (Melbourne).
It's = it is; its = everything else.
You're = you are; your = belongs to.
Than = comparative ("bigger than"); then = next.

Has there been any further news or developments in relation to the Parafield Airport expansion?

I did see a lodgement for a Bulky goods Store, but nothing has come of it that I could see.

The plans for the DFO, Hotel and other recreational and shopping facilities seemed to have stalled too.

There's this thing called a downturn in the economy which is happening right now. Businesses in the private sector, both existing and new, are especially relunctant to set up new establishments and are looking to curtial their expenditure where possible. There is a lack of consumer and business confidence right now, poor growth oppurtunities in future and weak consumer demand. Until things improve, it's fair to say that as far as the vast majority of retail, commercial and industrial operations are concerned, such projects will likely be cancelled altogether, or put on hold either indefinetly or for the medium-term.

So, to answer your question, no.
