Prior to the 2008 demolition, how tall was the building that was originally there? I can never remember anything that tall, but to be fair, I can never remember really going past it that often prior to 2008.slenderman wrote:Oh, sorry I wasn't clear enough. I meant that the empty lot + ugly carpark combo was a blight on the streetscape for 7 years, since about 2008 when the buildings in front were demolished for the failed Hills proposal. But it's onwards and upwards now.

It was an old Petrol station. Here's the street view from 2007.Phantom wrote:Prior to the 2008 demolition, how tall was the building that was originally there? I remember that. Hahaha. I took a similar picture to that a few pages back. Just from the way Slenderman made it sound, it sounded like there was another building visible from the hills on that site prior to 2007.Pikey wrote:

This may be a stupid question but when is this project due for completion?

I love the fact this building will be very visible from the airport, alongside Optus like the new "southern CBD twin towers". Goes to show that our skyline is so flat and spread out, that you can imagine even a couple more 90+ metre buildings changing the look dramatically. Heck, not even that tall... look at the developmental monentum in the West End right now.

Some of the heights in the area are...
47m - Credit Union Building at 374-400 King William St
50m - Quest Accommodation at 377-379 King William St
63m - Optus Building at 431-439 King William St
And then this bitch...
89m - Vue Accommodation at 411-427 King William St
The Optus building next to it has 16 floors. This one has 28...
Just think that it will be more than a third taller than the Optus building and then look back at Phenom's picture and realise how tall this one is going to look in the area.

Nice comparison shots phenom. Please keep us posted from that angle as this one goes up (if it's possible for you).
These sorts of comparison shots will become very interesting in the years to come as this one and possibly some of those ~40-45m South Terrace proposals go up. It's great to get these sorts of photos in any case because you can never take them again once something's been built.

You can if you move everyone out and have access to a large pile of demolition explosives and a wrecking ball...slenderman wrote:It's great to get these sorts of photos in any case because you can never take them again once something's been built.
