Are we any closer? Any signs of life?!

While I realise some of this was out of the ACC's control - for the love of god - surely this shouldn't be taking THIS long?

The more I see the lighting poles; the more it makes me want to move into the city, run for council in the next elections, tear these lights down and start the process again but this time with NO poles. What were they honestly thinking with the lumpy looking effect on the bottom of the pole? OR the placement of them in the mall? It's messy.

The four spires were needed after it was discovered some buildings were not strong or tall enough for attaching the overhead cables for the lights, while two building owners refused to co-operate

"It was discovered some buildings were not tall enough".

Jesus bloody Christ. How hard is it to take a look upwards at the sky on day one of the project and work that out for yourself!

The incompetence at the ACC reigns supreme in their handling of the lighting component of this project.

I was going to say something like this but "Kasey" said it for me...

If I read this correctly, the extra cost is primarily because of the need to alter the intended lighting system because the existing awnings either werent strong enough OR building owners refused to play along with the Council's plans..Yet the Advertiser sticks the boot into the ACC only?? I love to kick the Council myself, but lets at least try to be fair here.

I don't care their excuses. Its been 2 and a half years. That is excessive and way TOO long! because of the unexpected interruption to the plans it should have added months maybe 6 at most.

To be fair the lighting stage has been around 12 months.

In 2013 they paved the first two stages, then stopped work for the xmas period.
In 2014 they paved the second two stages, then stopped for the xmas period.
And sometime around August 2014 (?) it acme to light that the two building owners had withdrawn their support for brackets to be attached to their buildings, and the alternate pole plans came out.

The lighting stage has seen the biggest delay. Maybe it will be finished in time for xmas 2015?

I agree the ACC get slammed but have they not made their own bed to sleep in. Imagine if it wasn't for the DAC, you remember the good old days when 13 story building got reduced to 8 story because of shadowing concerns and wind tunnels :toilet: . I can appreciate Adelaide has a unique ..... thing and should try and be Melb, Syd or what ever we are different and it's god to embrace that. But we shouldn't be backwards and the ACC need to realise we are not a city with 500 years of history so pull the plumb out of their bum and get on with it. I think someone need to tell them what my pop's told me as a little fella and that is, the biggest risk in life is to take no risks at all . Now come on lets hold hands and be a adult and make a friggen decision. My last post tonight may or may not of have a few fermented beverages

Lol. Serca's late-night inebriated stream of consciousness concluded with this 5th post.

Nevertheless many good points.

Made me smile. Good man...

HaHa. That's me. I'm still surprised the tiser allowed it through moderation;)
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

The lighting is finally going to start being installed tomorrow, with completion aimed for October 14.

Do they mean October 2015, or October 2016?
