Actually, after so many years of hosting the event, there are still lots of tourists coming into the city to check things out, so perhaps we've just got to find a way to leverage on all those foreign dollars?
Yes, taxpayers do fund this event, but given that it turns a profit each year (as far as I know) it's not a bad thing.

I can't help myself... after twelve years, it's become tradition.

I still remember laughing my ass off about that the first time I saw it. I reckon there could be grounds for a championship based around tracks like this, wherein:

- All the cars must be either XF Falcons or VK Commodores, and must contain at least one body panel that is a different colour to the rest of the car.
- The pitstops involve the cars being up on bricks and having their wheels stolen. Instead of refuelling, replacing a half drunk slab of VB with a full one is acceptable.
- Instead of stop-go penalties, they have an RBT, where you're disqualified if your BAC goes UNDER .05.
- The pitlane is to be positioned inside a large Bottle-O.
- Drivers MUST contain readings of THC.
- Seatbelts are optional.
- Time bonuses are given for burnouts, drifts and donuts.
- Any crashes must be sorted out by a punch up.
- Cars must have either mags or steel wheels. Hub caps are allowed, but a car mustn't have more than two.
- Loud sound systems playing "Doof Doof" music are mandatory. Alternatively, Cold Chisel is also acceptable.
- The race is deemed complete once 50% of entrants are either passed out or incarcerated.

Cold Chisel would be for the classic race only. ;)

Ah, true. I figured I'd forgotten a few of the regulations...

You got any more, Mono?
