News & Discussion: Trams
Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Doing North Terrace grand junction in one hit is a very smart move… and I hope it will happen. I am not that long here (in Adelaide) but long enough to learn – wait and jump only when it happen.
Another thing. Tram lines should have a route numbers… they are more visible from a distance. Being born in city with a quite few tram lines I can see a big advantage having a route number…Of course a tram should also display whenever is possible their destination in letters…
Hope I will see the grand junction and more and more new route numbers…

I hope the libs never get back in.Waewick wrote:You know, this might suprise you, but people can have negative views and not be from the opposition party at the time.Brucetiki wrote:Not surprisingly the card carrying Liberal members have hit the news sites bagging the upgrade as a tram to nowhere once again.
You'd have thought that being proven wrong repeatedly about the previous expansions they'd just shut up and go away now.
I would hazard a guess that most people complaining aren't even political party members (like a good 95% of the state's population.). The libs have about 3000 state members I'd guess 99% of those wouldn't even have Internet.
Not because I'm a particularly staunch labor man but because if they did we probably won't see anything built in adelaide ever again. Not for nothing have they been in opp for fifteen years.

I hope every election there is a possibility of more than 1 party winning.

But let's be honest. What would the Liberals do in the way of infrastructure development? As far as I'm aware, they haven't committed to anything other than the Oaklands train overpass. Labor is the better of two evils.

Let's wait until the election period and see I guess.[Shuz] wrote:But let's be honest. What would the Liberals do in the way of infrastructure development? As far as I'm aware, they haven't committed to anything other than the Oaklands train overpass. Labor is the better of two evils.
Re: News & Discussion: Trams
As I said in my first post I am not that long here but I can sense some patterns in Australia when comes to political parties, Liberals and Labor in particular and their relation to the public transport. The very last election in Canberra was some kind of referendum about trams… and so on and it’s not black and white. But, it’s not that much about our political parties, it’s more about “average Australian” who has issues using or investing in our public transport. Prise the car. Then, they visit some European cities and suddenly they are full of praise for local public transport without thinking or realising how much money is spent on regular basis. There, majority of people have no issues when comes to investing and using local public transport... and yes, I know there is a difference in population density… but that does not hold argument for not having trams in our transport corridors as efective way of transporting large numbers.

But anyway I'm looking forward to 2018 election. Going to be pivotal for the state.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
The renders look pleasant, I agree. However, the nit picking detail errors indicate that it's an "artist's impression" only. Fair enough. Those have been around for ever, and serve a good purpose.
However, it's a warning that we should wait a bit for more firm information on how things will actually end up in reality. For example, people have been reporting there's goint to be a grand union at North Terrace intersection, based on the fly through video. These renders show no such thing. These renders, show generous door widths (Yay!!!), with trams scraping the ground, lol. So, these are great "artist's impressions", but I eagerly await the detailed plans.

According to the video we might (hopefully) have something like this:
If so, do we have a company in Australia capable of manufacturing switches of this scale (grand union)?

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
The renders look great. I'm sure this will increase congestion for cars along North Terrace, but drivers will eventually adjust their behaviour.
Do you think if the trams head out to Prospect or Magill we'll ever have Melbourne-style stops where cars have to wait for passengers to get on and off?
