Didn't the original proposal for a modern art gallery come from the Art Gallery of South Australia to provide more space for it to display more of its collection and visiting exhibitions, and the proposal for an indigenous culture gallery come from the South Australian Museum so that it could have more space.

The proposal from the SA Museum came because the Adelaide Contemporary announced aboriginal art as part of its program (the Gallery of Time component), and the Museum chucked a tanty because they believe everything Aboriginal is "their" thing. Prior to that, the museum was pursuing an expansion on their current site.

The image of the proposed gallery released by the Liberal Party ahead of last year's state election is bland and disconnected from the Botanic Gardens.

Aesthetically, the JPE design is the most interesting, unlike any other building in the city, feels most like it would adapt to multiple purposes and furthermore, the snaking rooftop path might find its place representing the Rainbow Serpent story from Indigenous Dreaming.

The Liberals are proposing to spend only $60 million versus $250 million for the Adelaide Contemporary project. Architectural expectations will have to be correspondingly downgraded.

A $60M budget was mentioned in the InDaily article, but it’s misleading.

There is $60M allocated for this project in the 2020/21 state budget, with the remaining budget to be confirmed after the business case is prepared.

To building anything decent and iconic would require a $200M+ investment I would have thought.

$60M is the 2020/21 budget allocation for the building (early in the build process), not the entire building budget. The entire budget is yet to be determined.

Not much to see now, the site has been demolished and levelled . Only a couple of truck loads of rubble to go.

I'm getting worried about what Lot 14 will end up becoming - starting to sound like a bit of a mix, which isn't necessarily all bad.

However, please, no glorified cooking school. What a waste of world-class sited real estate.

I think the cooking school should be relocated to the city, but I think it should be at the Central Market to add to its reputation as a leading food destination.

Maybe they will build the campus/where students stay at 200 North Tce with the cooking school nearby at Lot14?

Would be good for rundle street and cafes getting those types of students working and i assume, buying food and clothes.

Three glass towers revealed in new artists impressions of old RAH site innovation hub

New artist’s impressions show three rectangular buildings towering over the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site, as the State Government takes the next step towards building an innovation hub in the city.

The Government will tomorrow launch an expressions of interest process to design the hub, which will be a base for researchers and entrepreneurs.

A basic concept has been produced to help guide companies vying for the contract, but architects will be required to submit their own visions for the hub.

The Federal Government has pledged up to $20 million towards the project, which could cost up to $100 million.

Premier Steven Marshall said the hub would require multiple buildings to ensure 22,500sq m of floor space was crammed into its 3500sq m footprint on the site, now known as Lot Fourteen.

“It’s critical that the hub has an inspiring, cutting-edge and functional design that brings together all levels of government, global industries, entrepreneurs and research institutes,” he said.

“We’re excited to see what designs emerge from this expression of interest process.”

Federal Trade, Tourism and Investment Minister Simon Birmingham said the funding, which was part of the Adelaide City Deal, would “transform the Lot Fourteen precinct into a game-changing hub of innovation”.

“That means there will be more jobs for South Australians and more opportunities for our young people so they can stay here, rather than moving to the east coast,” Senator Birmingham said.

“This hub is an investment into the next generation of entrepreneurs, researchers and creators, and I am confident that we will see many innovative projects developed here that will eventually make their way to become commercial products with tangible benefits for SA.”

Under the plans, a communal working space would be housed on the bottom floor of the hub, with commercial offices on its upper floors.

The buildings would be in the heart of the former hospital site, alongside a National Aboriginal Art and Cultures Gallery and a new culinary school.

The 7ha North Tce site will also house the National Space Agency, as announced by the Federal Government last December, as well as the University of Adelaide’s Australian Institute of Machine Learning.

Demolition of non-heritage buildings on Lot Fourteen is expected to be finished by the middle of next year to allow construction to start.

The hub, which Mr Marshall said would have public demonstration areas to “inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs”, is expected to be a base for coders and gamers, as well as space, cyber security and defence pioneers.

Note that this is an artist impression and unlikely to be the actual thing, but it was created by the state government which probably means that this will guide the design Sorry for thread bump!

I really hope its not a guide as to what the end product will look like. Boring and uninspired but that's the current state of the government I suppose.
