This site would be great for an OTR.

Nah, South Australia doesn't need any more dodgy servos.

South Australian, family-owned businesses are "good" in some contexts. We seem to like buying food and wine from them, why don't "we" like buying our fuel from them?

To be honest, I would rather buy most of that stuff from a family-owned deli or general store, and buy my fuel from a family owned service station with friendly driveway service from a chatty attendant. Don't laugh, we have both of these in Nairne, and the fuel is always several cents cheaper than the On The Run in Littlehampton, which may be a family-owned franchise, but is beholden to another very rich family down in an expensive Adelaide beachside suburb. :D
cheers,
Rhino

There's some pretty dodgy people running petrol stations in Adelaide. I worked for the owners of the X-Convenience petrol stations and
they're business practices are very dodgy.

Have you ever noticed that the liberty stations and the X-Convenience stations are normally cheaper than all the others ?

It's because they hire Indian staff and just pay them $10 or $12 an hour.
Unfortunately our pathetic government is too hopeless to crack down on it.

Have never been served by a foreign national at an X Convenience, and besides, not that any underpayment of staff is right but at-least they don't do what OTR have done and force their staff into Retail Cert courses so that they can pay them apprentice wages which are usually less than what you have mentioned.

Sure you did. Did you share with them your thoughts on the Italian & Greek communities and business people such as them selves?
Or do you reserve that for online forums where you (mistakenly) think you're anonymous?

$10-12/hour for Indian staff? Right..that's why most of their employees are white Australians, and why there's an Indian guy at one X Convenience I regularly stop at that drives an Audi. He's been working at that store since before they created the X Convenience brand. Conditions must be so bad that he's stuck around for a decade. :toilet:

Between these guys and OTR, they like to keep our courts busy. Difference between what some of us say about OTR, and what you've said, is the OTR stuff is well documented and known. Hope for your sake that they don't read these forums.

Of course, the more locally owned businesses the better, it means more money stays within our borders and re-circulates on our shores, not overseas.
But a monopoly is a monopoly, and there are areas already flooded with OTR.

X Conv. - 22 stores
OTR - 130 +

Who's the dodgiest owner of petrol stations in Adelaide ?

#11 Post by ghs » Tue Nov 26, 2019 9:22 pm

In my opinion the X - Convenience petrol stations are the most corrupt operation on the planet.

Please discuss.

There was a discussion on petrol stations on another thread and all hell broke loose.

I thought it was best to start a dedicated thread.
