TRYP by Wyndham to open new $35m hotel in Adelaide CBD
Work on a funky new $35 million CBD hotel is to begin in October — just months after its developers were told by the state’s planning authority to improve its facade.
A new 124-room, $35 million city hotel and seven-storey office complex is set to open in early 2021, with work to begin October.
South Australia’s first TRYP by Wyndham hotel is to open on Pulteney St and will be developed by Adelaide’s Ginos Group.
It will feature contemporary hotel rooms and suites along with an elevated lounge area, two restaurants, two bars and meeting rooms.
The development will also house a commercial office space, which will be accessed via a separate entrance.
The application to build the 11-storey hotel and seven-storey office complex was initially knocked backed by the planning authority in April because of concerns with its “external architectural expression”, before being approved last month.
Site works are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021.
“Tourism in SA is soaring, visits to the state increased seven per cent in the year ending September 2018, reaching a record high of seven million,” Wyndham managing director, South East Asia, Joon Aun Ooi said.
“Adelaide is leading the way; the city’s robust events calendar, revamped Adelaide Oval, rise in cruise ship visits and additional air links continue to drive growth. We plan to bring a unique design concept to Adelaide.
Zis Ginos, who heads the Ginos Group, said he wants to bring a unique design concept to Adelaide.
“We want to develop an iconic hotel that becomes an Adelaide treasure and invites guests to experience the very best of the city,” he said.

Wyndham, which provides management services for 9200 hotels globally, also announced a new $40 million hotel in Victor Harbor this week in addition to a new $90 million Ramada hotel, also in its portfolio, last month.

Good riddance! Most of you know how protective I am of heritage and preserving existing facades etc rather than replacing character with shit, but I've hated the building on this site for years, glad to see it go.

I believe the question is what's the heritage or characterful façade here for you to have potentially been protective about?Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2019 12:12 amThat's the one!wilkiebarkid wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2019 9:42 pm???Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2019 6:17 pm

Mate, we've all seen the parkland preservation group in action, some people will find merit in the worst of shit. Thankfully I draw a line somewhere and this falls on the 'I don't give a rats' side of that line.
