Concerning department stores...a short 'history lesson'......I can remember the following open in the CBD in 1974......Myer, David Jones, John Martins, Millers, Moores, Cox Foys and Harris Scarf's. There was another on the NW corner of Rundle and Pulteney. We are down to TWO. How things and shopping have changed! Streets then were crowded with people....and earlier with Trams. Digital age has ruined some of this I'm sure. Big stores replaced by heaps of smaller ones.

I know Millers was in Hindley Street, but where were Moores and Cox Foys?
Retail in general has become more competitive, but department stores haven't. There's seldom any reason to go into Myer any more — its become a clone of DJs. And DJs really has precious little since they got rid of FGF. I doubt either will close down any time soon, but I wouldn't miss them if they did,

Between 1914 and 1979, Moore's occupied what is now known as the Sir Samuel Way Building on Victoria Square.
Cox Foys was located in Rundle Mall (then Rundle Street) where Kmart is today. It closed in 1977.

Charles Moore (Moore's) was in the Sir Samuel Way Building where the District Court is now located. Cox Foys was where Kmart in Rundle Mall is now. Cox Foys had a funfair on the top of the roof with a Ferris Wheel.Aidan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 1:18 pmI know Millers was in Hindley Street, but where were Moores and Cox Foys?
