Waterloo/Burton area is getting lots of development at the moment.
There was a new housing development (Delfin i think) which started being sold off about 2 years ago. I think most of the land in the one area is nearly all built.

There is also a lot of land around it. One of the main problems is that most of it is classified as industrial.

There was also a new shopping center being built just as you get into Burton heading up Waterloo Cnr road from Salisbury Nth. I think the main shop is a Woolworths. I would assume its finished now. I haven't been up that way for about 8 months. I used to work near there.

If you go to the left of Waterloo Cnr Road (Heading Salisbury to Pt Wakefield Road), over in that are there is supposed to be some huge housing development going in. Something like 2,000+ houses in anticipation for the expansion of the army base. Troops from Sydney are apparently being moved to SA. There was an article about it last year sometime. Anyone know the latest on this development?

Two Wells/ Lewiston. I used to live out at Lewiston years ago. The properties are huge.
I can see this area being redeveloped. If everyone on our street decided to sell the back part of the property they could have run another road down there and still have enough room for a huge house with a swimming pool and tennis court. Our land was so big that we had a huge entertainment room swimming pool, tennis court, horse stables, chicken run, and then the massive vacant bit of land out the back which we sometimes put wheat in so we could be 'pretend farmers'
All the blocks along the road were the same. It would be east to double the houses in the area without impacting on any established houses.

You're not advocating medium density housing at Lewiston now are you? People live out there because it offer them what they want - space, and a lot of it. They're not asking for public transport and other suburban facilities, they're prepared to go without them for the ability to have a bit of acreage within commuting distance of Adelaide. They're outside the Urban Growth Boundary too.

Since I've started this thread, a steel frame for another 3 story apartment block has gone up, the concrete frame for a 5 story apartment block has gone up, and signs have been placed advertising at least one four story office block. And this is only what's within view from the train station!

Its interesting to see this article about Mawon Lakes. One would think that this trend *should* be reversed in Mawson Lakes considering its a new suburb.. The new suburbs should consume less power than their older suburbs, but instead they are using more, lots more.
There was a documentary on SBS or ABC not long ago about our housing standards and how they are well below places overseas. We don't even have mandatory double glazing.
This data should be a wakeup call for anyone building a new house in any suburb in Australia.
All house designs should come with mandatory ratings just like a fridge. If it falls below a specified amount it should not be allowed to be built. People can then work out the cost of running a house, vs the initial cost of adding more efficiency to the design.

MAWSON Lakes residents have been warned they face blackouts this summer unless they cut power consumption, especially by monster-size air conditioners.

ETSA has calculated that the annual summer power load growth at Mawson Lakes of 4.9 per cent is almost double that of the typical metropolitan rate of 2.7 per cent.

The average home at Mawson Lakes is peaking at 12kVA, with consumption of 6kVA to 8kVA commonplace – compared to elsewhere in Adelaide, where it ranges from just 3kVA to 6kVA.

I saw a report recently from Queensland that each new refrigerated air-conditioning system installed required infrastructure upgrades averaging $15,000.

If you had to pay a $15,000 licence fee to install r/c ac we would soon see an improvement in house designs.
