I doubt we'd get something that nice here in Adelaide. Shame, because those retail spaces underneath would be perfect for Brighton station if the skyrail was continued and the station moved over Jetty Road.

Dear project stakeholder

On 22 June 2021, the South Australian Government announced that the Hove Level Crossing removal will not be proceeding.

This decision was made after extensive stakeholder consultation and detailed analysis of both rail-over and rail-under design options, which found that the least costly of the two would still be around $120 million more than the available budget. Instead, a Ten Year Level Crossing Removal Program will be established to identify and prioritise the removal of level crossings across Adelaide based on potential benefits, strategic importance within the network and affordability.

We would like to thank all community members, business owners and interested stakeholders who have engaged with us over the last several months about the Hove Level Crossing. We greatly appreciate your time, patience and participation in the process.

Brighton Road Corridor Planning study

A planning study of Brighton Road, between Anzac Highway and Scholefield Road, is currently underway. This is part of the State Government’s $10 million investment into planning studies to determine potential infrastructure upgrades on key arterial roads, intersections and transport corridors.

In July we will be seeking community feedback, via online engagement tool Social Pinpoint, on the current performance of Brighton Road. Working with local stakeholders to identify traffic congestion and safety issues in the area, and the potential treatments to alleviate them, will help deliver a better whole-of-corridor solution for funding consideration.

What if the Brighton Road Corridor study determines that the most critical bottleneck is the hove level crossing? Perhaps that can be used as leverage to get the Federal government to pay for it.

Of all he dumb stuff this government has done, this is one of the dumbest.

This is the second train-related project that they've cancelled partway through early works and after preliminary designs have already been drawn up. The Port Dock site had already been cleared and they had to pay to return it to its original condition and give it back to the Railway Museum, and Housing Trust residents around Hove station were in the process of being moved out to allow works to proceed.

Add the following to the list and it's clear this government have no public transport vision:

• Propose digging up a months-old brand new tram junction in the city to install a right turn that wasn't needed and in hindsight would've been useless anyway since they quietly abandoned any further tram extensions despite suggesting North Adelaide and a City Loop going into the election.

• Their proposed solution to combat traffic congestion was removing bus stops on main roads thereby making it less convenient to use buses which would push more people to their cars and... (see the problem?)

• Scrap their proposed massive bus network redraw as "too hard and not popular" instead of listening to feedback and continuing to work on improving the plan.

• Build a bigger Park n Ride at Golden Grove but cancel the O-Bahn extension to Golden Grove (even priority bus lanes would've been something).

• Cancel the TTP Park n Ride when they enter office only to just now bring it back anyway.

• Ask for expressions of interest on the Barossa Valley rail line then keep it all secret and continue to block a local group from taking it over for a tourist train (severing Kroemer's Crossing to build the roundabout is not one of my criticisms, the tracks can easily be re-added if the line one day gets used).

• Announce 15 station upgrades on the Gawler Line two full years after securing GREP Stage 2 to begin AFTER the line reopens from a year-long electrification closure.

The only public transport upgrades I can recall that they've successfully implemented themselves are GREP Stage 2 (plans inherited but they did secure Federal funding to make it happen), Paradise Park n Ride, the Ovingham Level Crossing Removal, rehabilitation of the Adelaide Railway Station building and now this new funding promise for station upgrades. Nothing else comes to mind, so if I've missed any please let me know.

Paradise Park n Ride and the Ovingham Level Crossing projects benefit cars more than public transport, though.

I won't give the Libs much credit for GREP, aside from timeline blowouts. Although in fairness, it's possible that the original timeline was underestimated anyway.
