Agree that merging Edwardstown and Woodlands Park is a good idea. The line could be sunk and the station moved closer to Raglan Ave to provide interchange opportunities with bus services.
Ascot Park can then be rebuilt just a bit further north as said, and designated as the interchange point with the Flinders Line.
Although, if we are to merge Edwardstown and Woodlands Park as above, then it would be more logical to have this as the interchange point.

Also building on that. If you were to merge woodlands pk and Edwardstown together, you have to think about passenger access for passengers who alight and board at woodlands park because of Castle Plaza down the road from the station. Explains why Edwardstown and woodlands park haven't merged probably for that reason possibly but can be anyone's guess really.
Or even moving woodlands park right on the level crossing and having the road go under the rail (similar to west Croydon) but bus heights would impact that I think but then again clearance might be there. Who knows.
Even if you move woodlands park to raglan Avenue LXING you can then move Ascot park north by about 500m to accommodate woodlands park moving, merge Emerson and Edwardstown together on the corner stretch between those two stations and that way easy fix for South road developments as well.
I might try and see if I can simulate a merge on Railworks and get a clear picture as I have the metro network incorporated on there.

Why not eliminate the Emerson station.....and rebuild Edwardstown to the north of where it is....and rename the station Emerson or Cross Road.
And of course grade separate the South and Cross Rd intersection at the same time!

I don't think relocating Ascot Park is necessary - but adding two new platforms on the Flinders branch just south of the junction and replacing the current pedestrian crossing with a bridge link connecting all the current and new platforms would turn Ascot Park into an interchange.

Seaford and Flinders trains should have different stopping patterns on the shared tracks. This will make the trains faster. One train should stop at Mile End, Goodwood, Emerson and the other should stop at Showground, Clarence Park, Edwardstown.
When they grade separate Emerson, another idea is to build two express tracks south of Cross Road for the Seaford trains. There's enough room for four tracks in most of the corridor. Then the Seaford trains can stop at Mile End, Goodwood, Emerson, Marion, making it much faster than the all stops trains. Flinders trains can stop at Showground, Clarence Park, Edwardstown, Woodlands Park and a rebuilt Ascot Park on the Flinders' tracks. Maybe Flinders should also stop at Goodwood so you can change to Seaford, Belair or Glenelg without going into the city.

If anything Ascot Park should be moved South adjacent to Parkholme to make it more visible and could provide a connection to and from a rerouted W90 and the existing M44.

Something I made a while ago, the relocated stations are represented by the nodes - have the entire section between Emerson and Daws Rd grade separated and the stations relocated as part of those works. Relocating stations for the sake of 'increasing efficiency' or something along those lines would be controversial so I tried decreasing the station count by one along the line without compromising coverage too much.
Ascot Park would provide a connection between the Flinders and Seaford lines and be positioned as closely between Marion and the new Edwardstown stations. Locating the station adjacent to Sixth Ave would also allow the surrounding area to be redeveloped and more shops to accompany the current Omnivore Cafe.
Edwardstown would be located next to the proposed Castle Plaza redevelopment (not sure what's happening to it right now) and if a shopping centre was actually built the complex would have direct, seamless access to the trains. The station is also positioned as closely between the new Ascot Park station and Emerson station to maximise coverage. The station would also be a good place to put extra tracks and platforms for express trains bypassing the station due to the vacant land that can be used for these works before whatever development goes ahead.
Emerson should stay as is since many commuters (especially students) use the station to connect to the 100. Upgrading the 100 to a Go Zone service would make the transfer much more reliable and increase inter-suburban connectivity in the inner suburbs.
Marion and Clarence Park should be staying as well to maximise coverage -- all Seaford trains can run express to Ascot Park (potentially stopping at the Showground for special events) if the Flinders Line is duplicated all the way to Tonsley so there is no reduction in frequency at every single station along the aforementioned lines. Potentially the service pattern could be 4tph to Seaford and 4tph to Flinders, just like how Perth operates the Armadale and Thornlie lines.

The claim is that they can make Adelaide to Mt Barker in 45 mins. These guys are offering to demo this for the SA Government. Bit of a guage issue though...

Labor MP for Cheltenham, Joe Szakacs, is saying Labor will re-instate the Port Dock extension if elected to power.
** It’s Back! ** South Australian Labor will build the Port Adelaide Rail Extension.
After being cruelly cut by the Marshall Liberal Government when they were elected, a Malinauskas Government will get rail back to the heart of the Port.
This is an investment for the whole western community. It’s backing in local business and local jobs. And it’s part of Labor’s commitment to return our privatised trains back to public hands! It’s an investment for the future.

I'd be curious to know how the reinstatement will affect scheduling on this stretch of rail track.
My guess would be:
Adelaide to Grange stopping all stations to Grange.
Adelaide to Port Dock, running express to Woodville, then stopping all stations to Port Dock.
Adelaide to Outer Harbor, running express to Port Adelaide, stopping only at Woodville, then stopping all stations to Outer Harbor.
If this were to be the case I wouldn't be surprised if there's a medium term plan to upgrade Woodville Station, with grade separation.
