I didn't realise they were looking at Morphett Road in conjunction with the project for Marion and Cross roads. Great news, although funding seemingly not yet committed. https://dit.sa.gov.au/infrastructure/ma ... s/morphett

Looking at where they are investigating... Does this mean it will be a road over rail project?

What are the likelihoods of each of the 4 scenarios? While I think rail over road makes sense, maintaining the depo connection would be tricky and I wonder if they can bundle this project with depo expansion too?

Morphett Road is going to be rail over road. As will Marion and Cross Roads. A new depot will be built in Hindmarsh.

More will be formally announced shortly.

What about Brighton Rd? Are there any blueprints/plans for grade separation there?

I was wondering if it would be more practical to excavate land for a below ground corridor, which will complete separate it from the current road and rail network. Rivers/waterways could be an issue.

Brighton Road really needs to be rail over road - it was too predictable that Wingard's incompetence saw the project canned.

Edit: I was obviously raging about heavy rail, not light rail

Are you talking about the train or the tram?

Considering Brighton Rd for the tram isn't a level crossing rather just where the tram joins traffic, I don't see why it needs anything done. How would you even grade separate it without destroying Jetty Rd?

If money was no object, I’d tunnel under Brighton and Jetty Rd to an underground terminus at Moseley Square.

More realistically, if the level crossing had to be eliminated, I think they would cut short the line to terminate at Brighton Rd.

I actually think the tram is essential to traffic calming on Jetty Road. It's a benefit not a detriment that it runs at grade.

Yes, agreed. I also think they need to reconsider the amount of on-street car parking on Jetty Rd, especially on the western end past Gordan and Partridge Streets. The street would undoubtedly benefit from widened sections for pedestrians, especially during the summer months.

They tried proposing a slight reduction in street parking, so that they could increase the width and amenity of the footpaths, but traders chucked a fit.

Without continuing off-topic much further, I would argue the highest priority should be re-engineering the Moseley Street intersection for pedestrians. It's so dangerous for people and cars alike, and calming this intersection is unlikely to cause local traders to hyperventiliate.

While the corner shops are demolished, they should have taken the opportunity to build a pedestrian underpass from the square under Colley surfacing on Jetty Road.
