Looks like some trams will run the Entertainment Centre-Botanic Gardens route with maintenance to be done within this corridor.
If a tram does need to go back to Glengowrie, it'll be trucked down there.

Does anyone know why they couldn't keep the trams running to Glenelg (with 2 separate routes obviously) with a feeder bus between South Rd and the Morphetville Racecourse?

Very poor planning they couldn't run temporary tram tracks adjacent the corridor like they did with the South Road overpass build.

This is a worthy project no doubt but it's rolled out in the typical SA fashion of one project at a time with no long term planning.
If the corridor is going to be closed for 9 months why not do the overpass/underpass at Morphett Rd, Goodwood Rd (and potentially) Greenhill Rd at the same time???
But no, this is SA. In a few years time the system will be shut down again for another extended period as the next piss ante project is rolled out with great fanfare.
Politicians simply do not give a FUCK about mug punters. They never use public transport, therefore are not inconvenienced, that is simply the lot of the pleb.

I have no doubt there are some smart people in the DPTISA who would love to do other level crossings on the tram line at the same time......however......there is no money.
All the money in South Australia is going to the T2D freeway project.....nothing else is as important as being able to drive your car along a freeway between the Torrens and Darlington.

My favourite thing is when projects like this are always sold as public transport improvements rather than the road improvements that they are.

History says only one grade separation per decade so Morphettville road won’t happen til the 2030s .really disappointed with south road overpass has to be rebuilt .I think we have to have a plan for grade separation and future links into north/South corridor [short south ] get it right first time !11

Morphett Road is also being investigated, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is included in this project's timeline if joint federal funding becomes available.

The explanation on the radio was that temporary tracks would require more property acquisitions.

The obvious method of doing this would be to run trams from Glenelg to Cross Road, then a short shuttle bus to Marion Road where trams would then take passengers to the city. Say stop 9 to stop 11.
That would involve a new crossover for trams to reverse, and possibly electrical works for overhead distribution between the sections.
None of which is expensive in the scheme of things.

In response to the above post, the CNGs will not get a life extension. They are very unreliable, very slow, and hopeless up hills. There are only 23 out of the original 41 accessible ex Serco ones that are currently serviceable anyhow. The rest are dead. I doubt that any will be around by 2024. If extra buses are needed for the closure, then they will most likely be 18.280s if they're withdrawn after the last CNGs are gone.
