Saw this video a month ago and thought most of you on this forum knew the reason why this flight exists. That actual video doesn't explain the reason clearly. If you sift through the many comments and come across @magical_catgirl you'll find the correct answer. Many on here already knew this.

What is the current situation with cabotage?
I remember in 1999 I was in Sydney. I was planning to fly to London but had decided to see a bit more of Australia first. Having seen a fair but of NSW (plus the ACT and SE QLD) I was eager to return to Adelaide and enquired about the cost of flying. ‘Twas expensive but I was told it was about half the normal cost if I first booked an overseas flight less than a month later, as I would be allowed to use foreign airlines.

I didn’t take advantage of that, and returned by train via Melbourne. And when I flew to London it was via Sydney but I wasn’t offered the cabotage option to get there. When I returned a few years later, overseas airlines had given up trying to fly round Australia (aside from the odd triangular flight).

Not allowed for domestic passengers, but we know that.
I’m asking about the definition of domestic passengers: is there still the loophole that there was in 1999?

And on the subject of cabotage reform, my opinion has long been that flights not serving any of the big four airports should, if they make a fuel stop in Australia, be allowed to carry passengers between there and the final Aussie destination (subject to a cabotage tax.)

Australia is a small consumer market though, we generally struggle to have more then 2 major airlines operating domestically here.

For anyone interested Singapore Airlines will start a new service Singapore Changi to London Gatwick from 21 June 2024. Denominated SQ309/SQ310 the service will be five-times a week on a Airbus A350 LH:

Anyone know why SQ276's departure was delayed over three hours Sunday (last night). Time of departure is normally (scheduled) at 18:35. Pushback happened at approximately 19:05. After pilots routine checks on tarmac they swing back to gate at approximately 19:13. Was there some technical problem?

I might be wrong (probably am), but I thought it only arrived at 1830 or thereabouts, as I was at the Bonython Park tram stop when it went over.

SQ277 was delayed at Changi (departing at 08:57) and subsequently arrived here late at 17:45.



In the third image at 19:12 the red beacon light at the top of the fuselage comes on. Then at timestamp 19:13 they swing back to the gate where they'll remain for just under 4 hours. Usually these lights come on for various reasons to alert ground crew. Could it be they shut down one of the engines?

If a government ever did consider the storm drain tram approach (which would be quite expensive due to the narrowness of that corridor along most of the route requiring a bunch of residential acquisitions) I think it would actually be more beneficial to consider making it O-Bahn track.

This irritates me. Current public transport to the airport should be given far more respect.

Until some point in the 2000s, there wasn't even a metro bus service to the airport. Fairly sure you had to book a seat on a private minibus to go directly there. This is what I recall doing in the early 2000s.

This is purely hypothetical. But imagine an announcement saying "All metro bus services to the airport to be cut to save 7 minutes of travel time". It's not something I would discount from the realm of possibilities with the LNP by any means. It could happen as soon as they're back in office.

Why would any government cut services to the airport though? It's not just travellers that need them, the airport must have thousands of workers, and to reduce traffic we should be looking at getting them onto PT as much as possible.

I was going to suggest maybe the government reconsider the Jet express services that were cut during Covid, but the J1 / J2 are just as good (The J2A which terminates at the airport westbound is effectively doing the same job), is reliable and could be marketed more. Maybe the government could consider some kind of busway from the terminal access roads down near AFL max to connect up with Harbourtown, so the buses can cut down travel time along Tapley's Hill Road and SDB Drive.
