The North-South Motorway and its predecessor have obliterated a swathe of houses and businesses too. The 1948 street directory doesn't have a road through Croydon Park at all lined with where South Road and now the NSM go. Other parts have been widened by removing buildings too. The OTR and Sexyland have now closed.
Demolition is also underway on the Bouldering Place. Once this, Sexyland and the OTR are gone then Demolition for the Southern Tunnel portal will be complete

The Majors Rd Interchange is progressing.
Bridge abutments are largely complete, with the bridge girders due to be installed in early September. I've heard this will be done at night.
The southern side of the new veloway underpass under Majors Rd has been built. Once the new road bridge is built and open to traffic, the current alignment of Majors Rd can be closed and the northern portion of the veloway underpass built.
The shared use path between Main South Rd and Glenthorn National Park is complete and open. Construction of the path between Adams Rd and Ocean Boulevard is underway.
Earthworks for the new northbound on ramp look close to completion. The other three on/off ramps are also underway. Apparently the need to maintain access for SAAS/MFS vehicles is restricting how quickly things can be built.

Had to go along the freeway this morning for a work meeting going the opposite direction in peak hour.
My God, I could not believe how backed up it gets. All 3 lanes were a parking lot between Ashwin Parade and the Outer Harbor train line bridge in the morning. And in the evening, it was backed up from the Port River Expressway to just after the Regency Road overpass.
Did they expect this level of (induced) demand in the planning?
Not that I'm advocating we may need an additional fourth lane built just yet (and I really don't know how or where that would fit in) but jeez, with increasing population growth, that's bound to keep having a negative compound effect particularly with all the new housing developments in the Northern suburbs.

Agreed - southbound funnels from 3 lanes of freeway and 2 lanes of surface road into two lanes over the bridge to the Ashwin Parade traffic lights. I'm told that the morning southbound queue for the Port Road traffic lights often extends well in to the left lane of the trench, too. I haven't heard what the current design offers to avoid the same thing northbound at Anzac Highway since the flyover was replaced in the design by traffic lights.

Yeah the southbound Port Road exit is definitely a bit of a cockup. They need to fix that sooner rather than later. Again, how, I don't know, and whatever the solution will be a very expensive one.

That area around Ashwin Parade down to Richmond Road is the worst section with probably the worst drivers in Adelaide. Some people really should be restricted to owning a smart/self driving car only.
I'm looking forward to the NSM being completed, but dreading being in tunnels with those drivers, will probably continue to avoid the area during afternoon peak hour.

The Castle Plaza/Edwardstown section is just as bad. In my opinion, Adelaide drivers are at their worst when there's rain. Further up the NSM, the Heaslip and the Curtis road exits regularly fill up the merging lanes and back out towards the freeway in peak hour.

Has it gotten better in the last couple of years? Up until 2021, the Mark Oliphant College high school zone included areas west of the Northern Expressway, so school pickup would have had lots of cars going west (blocking exit from the expressway) through the roundabout. Since 2022, that area is zone to Riverbanks College at Angle Vale instead.
