Work has finally begun on installing cladding on exterior of waymouth telephone excange, cant tell what clour due to adhesive film.

Looks to be a matte silver judging by your first image, with a panel slightly peeled of its protective coating!

If its Monument ("Millennial") grey, I will be sad. I really like the original facade but understand it was failing so had to be cladded over.

This building was built in the late 60's for Telecom (Telstra). It was built without windows because it housed telehpone (land line) switcth gear and it easier to maintain a constant tempature without windows the only floor with windows was the staff cafe. it had large floor to ceiling heights to allow for under floor cables with easey access panels.

There were more but nobody talks about what goes on down in the lower levels. Shhh

As keen observers in a neighboring building we are definitely perplexed to understand what is happening here. Small black metal panels then cladding went up, now cladding and small black panels are being removed!

One thing that struck me is that these appear to be interlocking panels with deep recesses and, as such I'm not sure how you would easily and cleanly be able to remove the protective film from them once they're installed. I certainly wouldn't want that job.

It will be interesting to see if they are reattached with protective film already removed.

I think this is a DIY job, old mate's making it up as he goes. Probably found out that the black metal cladding generally makes things scorching hot inside so rightly changed it.

Noticed this morning that most of the little black plates have been removed from the front of the building at least along with the cladding itself. The scaffolding is still up but only lower down the front of the building - couldn't see the western side but might go for a walk later today to have a closer look. Hopefully they noticed how awful the grey was going to look and rightfully took it down. I won't hold my breath that a better colour / appearance will be applied but I guess time will tell.
