News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Thanks so much for posting this is great news! I hope some more overseas retailers see this and join the party. Great stuff. The luxury retail market in Adelaide is going strong with lots of room to grow.

The Reject Shop in Rundle Mall appears to be closing down.
There is an A4 thank you sign upstairs thanking customers for their support over the past 27 years, nothing that actually says closing down or a date. Not alot of stock left downstairs so assume it won't be long.

Good riddance, the Reject Shop in Rundle Mall has been abysmal for years. With Cheap as Chips also out of the mall, that leaves Kmart/Target and Daiso as the cheaper retailers of their kind.Columbo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 10:57 pmThe Reject Shop in Rundle Mall appears to be closing down.

The whole former Coles building would make a great spot for a Zara.

Just as I suspected. They hadn't bothered to fix the escalators in recent weeks.Columbo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 10:57 pmThe Reject Shop in Rundle Mall appears to be closing down.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
It's not been a fully serviced Reject Shop for years and it's showed, empty isles and shelves most of the time, which to me seems like a waste of a prime Mall facing retail space if they're not going to offer up everything the suburban stores have to offer. I know the same could be said for the CBD Kmart and Target but they still offer a lot even if it's not to the same extent as their suburban storefronts. Not opposed to the Reject Shop on principle, but perhaps the upper floors of the Myer Centre (similar to Lincraft) where one knows where they are but goes there when they need something specific from them.abc wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 4:12 pmwhy good riddance?Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 12:11 amGood riddance, the Reject Shop in Rundle Mall has been abysmal for years. Who tf wants a reject shop on our premiere shopping boulevard anyway. Shouldn’t have been allowed to set up shop in the first place.

It was pretty handy and quick to visit for little odds and ends. It was never a big commitment to visit either, unlike some other stores which are tucked away or must be traversed completely just for something quick.VinyTapestry849 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 12:26 pmWho tf wants a reject shop on our premiere shopping boulevard anyway. I strongly disagree with Patrick and Viny.
I am saddened to hear the Reject Shop in Rundle Mall is closing.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
It's clearly been going downhill at that site for a few years now, but at suggestions like saying it should never have been allowed.

Hey, don't lump me in with Viny. I didn't say it should have never been allowed. I just think the business has scaled back too much and given the lack of offering they have compared to what they use to, perhaps their time has come to move on.timtam20292 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 5:05 pmI strongly disagree with Patrick and Viny.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
There's an article in today's Advertiser stating that the landlord simply didn't want to renew their lease.
It goes on to say they're looking for another suitable tenancy in the CBD though.

Vinny has a point though.timtam20292 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 5:05 pmI strongly disagree with Patrick and Viny.

Is a discount store full of cheap goods what you would expect to find in what is referred to a premier shopping precinct?

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
I would go there regularly to buy toiletry and cleaning products.
I agree that it hasn’t been maintained well in recent years. Perhaps the lease not being renewed is a reason why they didn’t keep up with the maintenance? ie escalator not working. Hopefully their new spot will be much better.
Tbh I couldn’t care less that a cheap shop like the Reject Shop is in Rundle Mall. At the end of the day it was/is a popular shop and will continue to be so, whether in Rundle Mall or not. And what is wrong with having a cheap retail store option in Rundle Mall?
